meat...

I don't see the point the point in becoming a veggie. I just eat whatever I like.
Anyway, even if you were a veggie, you could still eat Mcdonalds. Their food only contains vague traces of meat.

I'd agree with Chips in general, the media do love to blow everything totally out of proportion. If it's not a disease its a wildly inaccurate description of food animal welfare. I had a bunch of militant veggies come to our school to show us this video presentation about how awful life was for farm animals and how everyone should move over to vegetarianism to help the animals and to save the world from starvation (yep, totally overblown crap). After the video finished, they asked for questions and when they let me say my bit, I blew nearly all of the sensationalist crud they'd shown us, out of the water. They said that some animals were raised in pens all their lives in absolutely awful conditions, but to show their point they showed us a picture of the inside of a waste meat bin, with a small dead piglet at the bottom. They showed us the chickens being beheaded but neglected to show us the electrified water bath that rendered them unconscious beforehand. They showed us footage of pigs being slaughtered, focussing on the spasms they go through as they die, once again there is no mention of the fact they were electrocuted beforehand and that when their throats are slit the blood pressure to their brain drops and they're incapable of coming to again. They went on to show us a cow being braced so that it wouldn't move when it gets shot with a bolt-gun, but tried to make it out that the workers were trying to crush the animal with a strange mechanism.
It was even funnier when the guy thought he could try and discredit me by asking me how could I be so sure about those things, but when I replied that I'd worked on a dairy farm and in an abbattoir before he quickly shut up
(ooh I do like to rant)

For Odin's Sake, Humans are omnivorous, as in we are supposed to eat meat, and Vegitables.
The basic physiology of the Human Race is built so that you need both to not grow weak and wither away, I say scregg 'em all with their diseases and stuff,
It's like GowserPauls sig says: Whats the purpose of being alive when you can't BE alive?? (courtesy to you GP) I always say Live Fast, Die young, You'll make a goodlooking corpse. of all the dreams I may have about immortality and as much as I love to be immortal, I still can't evade reality, We will eventually die, Period. Either by disease or because of a bodily Defect (heartfailure, you get the picture). Let it be!!

PS. Don't let this little rant distract you from the topic. As Allways, No offense meant in any way

Good old soy! It's damn good stuff! *Waits for obligatory "You're sick! " from Taw*.

I am surprised that chicken is still popular, as it is a breeding ground for bacteria such as Salmonella. Red meat does not cultivate anywhere near as much bacteria (as a rule). Still, people will keep eating chicken despite the risks. I hope that the "Flu" doesn't get to Aus., we have enough problems as it is. Damn Howard!

I alternate between chicken, turky and fish with a 3-4 week period of all veggy. The soy burgers just take a little getting use to, after that, no problem. There is a ice cream substitue called tofruity, made of tofu, and soy milk, that I can not tell the difference between it and soft serve Ice cream. And there is no lactose problems. Give it a try, you might just be surprised. Besides, what we had back in school was 1/4 meat and 3/4 soy protien anyway Yech!

I had some bloody nice ice-cream made from soy a few weeks ago. It was SO creamy, it was good stuff! Unfortunately, like most confections, it was too sweet. Still, it was very nice.

Chicken is not rampant with salmenella or other stuff - that is gross over-exaggeration. It can develop when raw meat is left in the open and so on.

Their is a chance, but yet again, its propoganda that has made it seem worse than it is. Once that chicken is COOKED the sal has gone. Its dead, gone, deceased. Chicken CAN be risky, but when you cook it (like any meat) its as safe as houses. now what is going to let you get poisoned - human error in not coooking it correctly. Its not the chickens fault - its YOUR fault if you get sal....or the person cooking for you of course .

I think a great comparison is that some parts of vegtables and fruit (mainly fruit) is poisonous as well - like the pips and stuff. It can even be incredibly poisonous - and if you eat "off" fruit and veg, do you really think that its not going to harm you??

Meat can be dangerous - BUT if you COOK IT properly you are fine. Its all down to good old principles. Mind you - beef.....steak......rare...........blood..........hmmm....

The score card is - The cow is loony (mad) the chicken got the flu, The ocean seafood went to another planet (Mercury) Poison that is, and the home grown fish got over fertilized which narrows down the field.

My mom has gone veggetarian, so, I don't get much meat.

I put sausages and hot dogs on the shopping list. My mom said they were all full of salt and fat, I told her thats why I like them.

Just because she dosn't want meat, dosn't mean I don't!

havent seen any health reasons for not eating horse they seem fairly healthy at the moment
venison is pretty good and relatively free from health issues even if it is a bit deer
dog and cat are seemingly fairly safe to eat in the countries that go in for that type of thing
rabbit and hare are ok as well
one thing i have always wondered do australians ever actually eat kangaroo and if so whats it like as i read that its meant to be very lean
ostrich farming was tried here a few years ago with limited success maybe it would be more successful these days with other foods having issues surrounding them
in short there will always be some creature with fur, feathers or scales that is tasty and safe to eat

Of all the foods I eat, when I go truly veggy, I do feel better after about 3 days. I do love a good round of squash, cabbage with onions, okra, and a lot of different beans. I sleep better too. Less dreams or at least the weird ones
