The gaming scene is changing.

This is where you can discuss your homework, family, just about anything, make strange sounds and otherwise discuss things which are really not related to the Lancer-series. Yes that means you can discuss other games.

The gaming scene is changing.

There's been a lot of news lately of this trend. See here

More folks for a MP game, the better. Morrowind already can be played from both sides of the coin with good female armor and characters

Alas, that may be wishful thinking - seeing the success of the pornography industry shows that some things will never change. Women or no women, the market will still be there, at least the PC is above that sort of thing.

i don't doubt the figures, but i bet most of em only play the Sims and Everquest, in the main (sorry malystryx but you're one of us )

my daughter plays online, Everquest (wouldn't you know it?) and Diablo 2. My wife plays the Sims (badly) and they both play Zoo Tycoon and argue about the best way to rear various animals.

In fact my daughter is out today with the wife's brother, playing some LAN rpg. Probably being an elf* or something else girly, and if you spot her online she uses the nickname Lothlorien (pathetic but at least its not Galadriel which was grossly overused even before LOTR films.)

* the one time she played with me I magicked her into a pig and wouldn't un-enchant her until she'd made me a bacon sandwich (irony) a cup of tea and been to the shop to get me a paper. Unf. she had a lvl37 character and she didn't want to have to start over. Later on she and the boy and her uncle ganged up on me to paste me mobhanded but my assassin skills at lvl49 were just too much even for Phil's hardened paladin and i toasted them all with firetraps and shadow warriors. You should have heard the squeaking and temper tantrums!

She's on about SWG now, so you see i do think the MMORPG does appeal to a lot of girls, it's the interactivity and chatting, typical female behaviour really. That's why my wife loves the Sims so much, she says it's like a soap opera or a reality tv show you can control, especially when it comes to relationships and stuff. I keep wanting to turn it into GTA3..

btw, Everquest? wtf is the point of this pile of horsedung? I'd rather watch paint dry.

there's loads of girls in SWG

I know this little animation isn't exactly the most insightful look at women in gaming, but it's a good description of most of the responses from some men.

well thank you kimk, myself I think "dysfunctional" is more appropriate.

sadly, despite my family's vastly increased use of computers, familiarity with even basic functions has hardly improved. I still regular cries for help with "how do i send an email?" how do I find a picture?" how do i leave feedback on ebay?" etc etc.

Fortunately me little lad (9) can do most straightforward stuff nay problem. The daughter had her friends over the other weekend to stay, and while I was out they couldn't connect the Xbox up to her TV as a dvd player, so me boy was roped in to do it. 8 15yr old girls relying on a 9yr old boy to do something so simple. the irony was, it was his Xbox that they'd just gone in and nicked, then dragged him out of bed to set it up for them. Poor little mite, he's learning the ways of the world very fast now. Women demand stuff and men do it. His sister even nicked his pocket money because her need at the time was greater than his (i made her pay it back later though)

Not long ago, I read that CNN had stated that more than 50% of gamers on AOL were women. I don't believe it personally. Still, it's on the internet, so it must be true!

Post Sun Feb 22, 2004 3:38 pm

but that's AOL, and women are big AOLers, cos they see the disks when they go shopping, know from the ads that theres no porn, and its an easy interface for a chick to use, all pretty colours. I did a laptop for some woman not long ago and she insisted on AOL as her ISP for all the above reasons. Me Mrs is much the same, it's a chick thing.
