The gaming scene is changing.

This is where you can discuss your homework, family, just about anything, make strange sounds and otherwise discuss things which are really not related to the Lancer-series. Yes that means you can discuss other games.

Women!

Still, I guess that most games (especially FPSs), are geared towards men. Maybe it is because they have more violent tendancies (there's an opening Taw) .

as i always say half the gamers that claim to be female are 52 stone bearded truckers from the midwest called nigel

Origin Systems has just been closed by EA. Sad isn't it?

Post Tue Feb 24, 2004 2:06 pm

tragic. but it's been on the cards for a long time. farewell Origin, you gave us years of pleasure and excitement!

There is an epitaph over at the CIC. It's not much of one but hey, they're probably upset.

the one good thing about is that Chris Reid won't be making anymore pointless and stupidly optimistic suggestions about the coming year being a good year for Wing Commander, like he's been doing every year. Maybe he might shut up now and stop being so self-righteous and omniscient.

(we go back a long way)

@Taw

the longtime belief that a California-based EA team would develop the next Wing Commander title may, ironically, be bolstered by this news ...... tremendous moral loss.... ultimate symbol of gaming's greatest days ....Origin entertained, challenged and inspired our generation in a way that seems impossible today......Though the individuals who developed our games long ago moved on to greater careers, the very existence of the company itself continued to stand for something special; something amazing.

This what you mean? It's rather uh....... delusional.

inserted in quote = Seriously?

PS

It would appear that the redhead is the blonde is Stevie "KillCreek" Case, a true female gamer and she did a spread in Playboy

The Sims is specifically designed to encourage exploration and experimentation, and includes very few ways for players to fail or lose. These are all elements that have been shown to appeal to female gamers over time.

Women don't like to lose!!

Anyway, I'm all for women playing games and what not, but I'm in an anti-women mood today.

Women have been invading "boys clubs" as of late. If they see something that is Men Only, they some feminist will say it's sexist because it's keeping women out and is being descriminatory.

In the Scouts, women have invaded. When I was a youth, the boys would crawl out of there tents, scratch themselves, make sexist jokes, make discusting sounds and what not. You know, things all men do in the company of other men. But when I became a leader, I had girls in my troop. The boys were not like I was in my troop. The precense of girls tamed them.

Why must women invade all of our clubs. Can they not leave us alone? Do they really think that men are helpless without a female precence?

ARUG!!!!!!!!

That's what the (old) saying goes:

"Women, can't live with them, can't live without them !"

Why do you guys find it so difficult to accept and believe that girls also play games(in that I mean games like freelancer etc)?

I know its mostly guys that play, but there are a lot of girls as well, and even in stuff like programming girls are getting into it more and more, for the first time in I think always there are more girls in our programming class than guys and the girls are doing better.

Maybe its because I play games myself that I find it so difficult to believe that you find it weird that girls play games, I grew up with games like WC, Privateer etc etc

Ow well I guess this will be a topic for discussion for the next few years

The more I learn , the more I get to know, the more I get to know, the more I forget, so why should I learn?

I've never had a problem with chicks playing games, personally I think it defuses some of the slings and arrows that are directed at the male of the species and our inherent lack of maturity. You know what it's like "Your not playing another game are you? You should be doing grown up things, like helping me pick out my 28th pair of shoes and buying financially crippling trinkets for me to wear around my limbs."

Post Wed Feb 25, 2004 10:24 am

huh. unless the shoes and trinkets are bought via computer thus depriving male owner of computer from playing games while female usurper sits on Ebay splurging male owners credit card.

@ posts about women not playing FPS - actually - lived in a student house of 8 for 2 years (only 3 lads including me aye , and yes, the women were fit, not a single ugly one (Leeds aye) ). Anyway - this might be due to the fact that us "guys" played Mariocart and Goldeneye relentlessly for months - BUT the girls loved playing too. They played them, as LONG as you weren't too competative or horrible (like thrashing them and charging to spawn point to slap them to death as they couldn't shoot you with magnum).

It has to be said that they were never any good at goldeneye........even after 2 months........but they were okay at mariocart. I think everyone was just suprised that such a group of "girly" girls played comp games (litterally the one who played the most was also the one who went shopping with daddies credit card to desiel and other expenisive designer shops ONCE a WEEK....and yes, she would come in complaining that she was knackerd!).

Therefore - as long as the games are visual games (pretty and interesting compared to dark and dangerous) you get more. Also - i find women abhor the space sim due to being unrealistic - but they love fantasy games alot more than other genres..........and like puzzling ones as well (work out things).

Look at this part:

The wide availability of a huge and diverse set of games makes Windows XP not only friendly for female gamers,...

Self advertising at its worst

But this is a really new figure to me:

IDSA research reveals that 30% of gamers who play more than 10 hours a week are female.
