eh? who's shooting down what now? Is this some attempt to mess with my head?

Actually just going back to Taw's posts on weapons intending to maim. I met a Vietnam Vet a few years back who had a phosphorous grenade go off in his hand. He jumped into the water in a vain attempt to douse it, but water doesn't do jack for phosphor and he increased the amount of time they had to remove the burnung "embers". It had pretty well much burnt off most of his face in the end, so I can definately see the reason why people want those things banned. He was a top bloke to talk to though, very interesting charector.

It was called a Shin-den by Kawasaki. It had 4 30mm cannon and had hard points for 4 bombs, up to 132 lbs./ea. For the Imperial Japanese Army Air Force.

It never saw commissioned air time. It is a pusher design craft, as you can see. Meant to be able to go to higher altitudes and have tha ability to attack bombers.

you should take a look at Luftwaffe '46 which has lots of lovely pictures of advanced German air projects.

Also take a look at Virtual RAF

it was good that the most off germans projects in ww2 where behind schedule...

otherwhise the germans had 2x as much tanks, ships and airplanes and V2-rockets shot at london... and then had the war an other ending then it was in the past...

gotta be a Nuclear ICBM, but then again the Chemical and Biological ICBMs are also pretty damn effective!

prob because the 730 never really got much beyond design and the partial building of a prototype, therefore it never captured the public imagination the way the TSR2 did, which had several flying prototypes and was all set for a long production run.

I've made these laments before on this forum, but it never ceases to sadden me.

@Taw,

When you say you want a gunboat, do you mean kitted up for fighting or modified for civilian use?

well it would be nice to have it fully gunned and torp'd up, but yes civilian use is fine. It's that hydrodynamic lift and marine diesels I want! plus they're big enough to be classed as real boats not toys and you get serious respect when you pull into harbour with one of these babies even if it's clapped out. Far superior to those flash powerboats and luxury "yachts" I would so lurv to pull into Marbella or Sorrento or Monaco with a growling MTB and just chug lazily into port looking with scorn on civvies and their toys (oddly enough just like we used to all those years ago....)

I must admit that I do like those big 12-inch guns on naval vessels. They would come in VERY handy in some situations .

Also, what about the good old attack submarine? That has to have been one of the most important naval innovations.

battleships. beautiful things. mechanical perfection. at least the Americans got to keep theirs for a while longer than us (or anybody else)

some years ago when I used to dive a lot more actively, I went on a dive to the German High Seas Fleet wrecks in Scapa Flow. They are incredible, truly, their scale is immense esp. when you can't see much further than your lights!
