Return salvo to X2 fans

This is where you can discuss your homework, family, just about anything, make strange sounds and otherwise discuss things which are really not related to the Lancer-series. Yes that means you can discuss other games.

@ Indy did you not see ONE of my threads or posts on X2?

*Reads EgoSoft forum post* Interesting. Well everyone knows my views on the game, but one thing I haven't said, and that makes me mad, is the fact that you have to register to download the patches! Personally, I think that that is pathetic. I mean, you go and pay $90 for a game (AUD), and then you have to subscribe to download a patch! I'm sorry, but patches should be made available to anyone at any time, as they are often designed to fix errors in the original coding. Well that was a short rant, but I feel better now. *Puts on asbestos suit against flaming* (I'm looking at you, Griff ).

Muwahaha! Suprise ambush-flame by Warlord Bob!

Just kidding, I actualy had to register twice but having said that, you only have to download it (and use the site at all) once, and it takes all of 5 min. to register and download (DSL). That's just a finer point that shown Egosoft's ineptness, nothing to get too upset about.

EDIT: Alas, my opinion mush show itself... Link
EDIT 2: On Egosoft I am Warlord Robert due to having to register twice.

Well, Esquilax, that registering to get patches could be a measurement against piracy (don't know how it's executed). Also, i'd be surprised if you can't get the patches from somewhere else....

Post Fri Feb 06, 2004 6:00 am

thats exactly why they have done it. In an attempt to put off the casual pirate. Of course the patches are probably available by other means within minutes of them being released but thats something that cant be stopped.

I personally dont see the problem with registering to get patches but others do.

Hi Griff..... ummm. You mean on TLR? I admit to not having read all of the X2 threads. This one caught my eye because it was Stinger who started it.

I think you started a thread that was a fairly objective critique of X2 that got people interested in it. That's all I remember.

Why?

Oh. I get it. You think I am referring to the TLR threads? No. I meant what I think I saw developing at Egosoft. Could be wrong though.

no, I will not defend X2, here, because its just the same old same old thing I have seen on Egosoft forums. I like the game myself and that is all that counts.

@ Indy, I was referring to your post about how fans cannot accept that their game is buggy or flawed. If you had seen my posts you would know that I was the first one to warn people of its disadvantages, even though I am a big fan.

Back to the registering for patches. I have several games, and NON of them are registered, but they ARE all purchased from the shop. Simply put, when i try to register, i get constant error messages, or i fill out forms and it cannot register it (error screen again), and this happens with near EVERYTHING that i tried to register (includes freelancer!), i have since tried again to register FL - but its no longer registerable at all. So for me, that would possibly kill me and the game dead - just cause the only game i ever managed to get to register was Eve - which i ended up stopping playing within a week!!!

Post Fri Feb 06, 2004 2:47 pm

its a different kind of registering. It involves putting your registration code on your CD case into your profile on their site/forums. Thats all.

@Griff....

Oh..... well... d'oh! I was generalizing .... It's more fun to do that. Present company excepted, of course.

Whee! That was a nice point-counter point debate.
However it's apples and oranges to me.
It's far too similar to comparing Battlestar Gallactica to Starwars.
These are two different games, tow different universes they just happen to have just barely enough in common to argue over, and little else.
Are white chess pieces better than the black? How come checkers arent' as pretty? they live on the same board, why not share the same traits?
Why is my wife's left breast larger than the right? Has one been favored over the other by her circulatory system?
Why did John wayne have to die, and schwarzenegger got the governership?
apples and oranges my friends, I like both.

Regarding "registration", yes maybe it is a measure against piracy, but this is just one step down from product registration! You may think I'm crazy, but EgoSoft have gone too far this time. I think that they have a duty to provide the patches to ALL users, and that people should be able to reserve the right to download the patches anonymously. Is that too much to ask?

They don't require any personal info except an e-mail address to send your password to. Hardly an identity...

True statement...but you have to put in the CD code to become eligible to receive the patches from their site. I found 4 sites (one illegal one) to download the patches anyways.
