Obligatory Star Trek Thread

This is where you can discuss your homework, family, just about anything, make strange sounds and otherwise discuss things which are really not related to the Lancer-series. Yes that means you can discuss other games.

Obligatory Star Trek Thread

Well, it had to happen didn't it? Someone had to bring ST on to TLR, and I have decided that it should be me. I am of course, assuming that ST has been brought up rarely on TLR, however I cannot confirm this without the "Search" function.

I will admit that I am a "trekkie", and that I enjoy watching ST, however I do not consider myself a fanatic. Sure, I know a few of the "Rules of Acquisition" and even know a few Klingon phrases, but I learned them through osmosis rather than though study. Well, that is with the exception of the Klingon phrase "Revenge is a dish which best served cold". I thought that it might come in handy . Still, as I said, I am no fanatic. Indeed, I take great relish in attacking the flimsy plots and illogical character development which is sometimes present in ST. Well, that being said, does anyone else watch ST and if so, are you a fanatic?

The above post is true, and by true I mean "false". It's comprised of lies, but they are entertaining lies and in the end, isn't that the real truth? The answer is "no".

I do watch ST. I am not a fanatic.

He's dead, Jim. - Many, many episodes of Star Trek

Yes! This is revolting! I hate it! - Star Trek: Generations

Never get caught in a hostile situation wearing one of the infamous 'red shirts'.

Ahhhh!! It finally happened since I've been here!

17. Pleasingly, there are relatively few discussions on Star Trek.

What's this sS? This can't be the first?! (you pre-date me by a while I think so I figure you know)

Well, since it's here...

Yes, I love ST. By no means a fanatic, but it is the longest lived and most loved sci-fi space drama thing (I enjoy sci-fi space drama things) of all time. My favorite things are...

-watching all the nifyt ships and noticing how they are all right side up relative to each other
-the repetitiveness of the original J.T. Kirk episodes
-the way all the planets in those episodes are the same, tinted a different color
-Q
-How the shirt color doesn't seem to have any real significance. Ex: Kirk is almost always yellow, Spock, blue, Uhura(?), red, everyone else subject to change. Picard, red, Riker, red, everyone else subject to change
-Spock
-The underling always chosen for away missions that has never been seen before will always die. Always.
-Ships never engage in combat till they are no kore than a few shiplengths away (it's not like space is vast or anything...)

There is more, nat, but why bother. You know it all anyway

@WLB, yes, but I have only been perusing the Off-Topic forum for 2 or 3 months. Just after I made Much Uba About Nothing. In that time I haven't seen any Star Trek posts, there were a few in the ancients, but pleasingly there weren't many, hence #17.

WB said,

The shirts mean what dept there in.

TOS:

Yellow = Command
Blue = Science/Medical
Red = Security/Engenering

TNG

Red = Command
Blue = Science/Medical
Yellow = Security/Engenering

I used to love it, but Voyager and that bl**dy awful Enterprise rubbish have pretty much killed it for me. I'll still watch DS9 anytime though.

im in a rather unfortunate position here, i like star trek and star wars

It is better to aim for the stars and hit the tops of the trees than to aim for nothing and hit it dead on.

I personally love Enterprise! DS9 and Voyager follows. TNG is too soft and peacenik, and TOS is all brawn and no brain.

I am a fanatic, but nothing radical like sharpening my teeth or wearing uniforms. I don't even have any paraphernalia. I just try to watch every episode of Enterprise and Voyager.

One of my "friends" has a ST costume and goes to ST conventions... But hey! I don't judge him because of that. Only because he smells funny

Oh dear god they are all coming out of the woodwork now. I watch it from time to time but only if I happen upon it while channel surfing. The only truely great sci-fi is the Holy Trilogy, but dear lord when will Mr Lucas let me have it on DVD?

Post Mon Dec 15, 2003 12:21 pm

I think there will be a DVD box after the last epsiode (III) has played in the theatres. I have abit knowledge of DVD releases and Iv'e been told that there will be a LotR Trilogy box, and not to forget the newly release Alien box (9 dvds) so I'm pretty sure that there will be a SW box with all six the movies!

excues me but what the **** is wrong with liking star trek, its the goddamn hizouse (whatever THAT means). Its the bomb, the butter on my goddamn muffin. I REVEL in that kinda stuff. TOS was a bit dodgy, but thats cause most tv from that era was. You take all those good strories stick them with modern storytelling techniques and everyones a winner.

Best season EVER was DS9. and i think i'm talking the entire of TV here. I used to skip MEALS for that **** man, i mean whats with mothers and making tea at about that time. Sure they'll skip THEIR tv shows but when something you like comes on theres that call from the kitchen "tea!". Well not for me, after about 3 times of watching mine and my brothers dinners going cold at the table, she got the message, but i was always hungry later .

and for the record, because of my severe dislike of TOS and my love for all things TNG, i'm a goddamn trekER not a trekIE, jeebus, its like youve never been to a convention or anythng. And Taw: what the hell is wrong with Enterprise. Have you SEEN T'pol? not to mention it kicks the ass-end off any first few series episodes of Voyager

sorry Arch I just find it incredibly tedious, it just hasn't engaged me at all. Daughter loves it though, thinks it's the best Trek ever. Course I've seen Jolene Blalock, great looking bird, love to boff her, shame she acts like a traffic bollard. Still can't figure out how Sam leapt into a spaceship captain's body?

There's the odd good episode, but not many though, and it totally f***s up the Trek timeline and "history" so no, imho, Trek's been on the decline since DS9 ended, Voyager had the odd moment but regularly lapsed into touchy-feely mediocrity, and Cr*pterprise is more of the same.

I like Enterprise. I watch it every now and then. Two episodes in a row, that's a nice watch

Edit: Damn spelling.
