@steel yeah dtd killed just about every joystick I owned...and still to this day (using emulators) I can't do the shotput!
@jollysoul - C128!! Thats a bit posh! I started on punch cards at school, upgraded to a Lynx, moved to the BBC B, then the BBC Master (which allowed you to play BBC B games a bit like the C128/C64), then followed the trusty old Amstrad CPC464 with its built in tape deck, then the Acorn Archimedes (RISC OS what an invention that was)....and so on until I finally made it to the 286 PC! Its weird looking back at it actually, cos I think I learnt something entirely different from each one.
@harcan aaah that explains it! but my girlfriend is polish and all of her family speak better english than me! The british education system is in desperate need of improvement methinks.

@gromit-oh yeah-the good old punch card way and the ripping you'd get with one punch in the wrong place--ouch! The local Community College had a build your own computer class at night, so I signed up for it and had my first IBM clone PC-a screaming 5MHZ AT 8086 with a 10 meg HD then onto a 386, 586(think it was called a P5). I have used machines that used the 8" floppy,also. A friend of mine had an Amstad and another had a Tandy. Man those were the days!

You know the Tandy family came from Kentucky -- Caldwell County. One of 'em went out to Texas around the early 1900s. Started a nickel and dime store, went into radio in the early days and then into electronics. Sold the company years ago though. I know some of the Tandys, the poor ones.

I am quite surprised at the more "mature" crowd we have in our little community! I was starting to think I was the oldest one still gaming! But seriously, its good to see that people of all ages can get together and have discussions on a shared interest! oh yeah, I almost forgot:

Hey, lots of us old gits got hooked on computer games before some of the younger members here were even born. I can remember staying up 'til 2 AM playing with my Spectrum in the mid '80s, when I knew I had to be up at 7 AM. So some things haven't changed!
p.s. A few months ago, a neighbour in his mid 30s said to me, "The only game I want is Elite." I told him to do a search on line. He did ... and started playing it again, only this time on his Pentium.

H-town(houston) Texas, Bike courier for 61/2 yrs. I'm 27 going on 18 lol. Love Video games. My first video game system was Atari 2500, then I had the Commador 64, with color moniter. 10lbs. floppy drive( flat black flimsy disks)
Really like this Game. stayed up last night till 2:30am. had to be at work at 7:00am lol droopy eyes today.
