Final Elite Server announcement! Good and bad.

Here SysOps can list their MultiPlayer server info and users can send feedback to their SysOps. Or just talk about the MultiPlayer servers they play on. This is not about MultiPlayer in general - please use the MultiPlayer Forum for that!

Thanks guys, it's sad to see such a landmark go. I'll be visiting more often for the last days. See you in space!

....uhhhg.....think i toke one to many hitz of duh BiLlAbOnG an ended up in hell...it all went by so damn fast........

Damn, never in my life have I had enthusiasm for a game sucked out of me so fast. I mean, for hours and hours I’d just sit there doing trade runs, just knowing that it would be all worth it because I’d be able to have a nice ship in a good server… Now it’s like all of that was for nothing and I’m not going to be able reap the rewards of my effort. Too late to start fresh on a new server being I already spent way too much time here building my character, just don’t have the time or will to start fresh again. It’s not like this is a quake server where you pretty much spawn as good as it gets, people have hundreds of hours invested in their character. And not like it takes a lot of effort to just hand the server files over to another willing server if you don’t want to do it anymore. Somehow shafting all the players is the better thing to do? I must be missing something.

God… this is depressing.

@GotNoRice

I think your opinion is completely inappropriate and uncalled for. This one in particular:

Somehow shafting all the players is the better thing to do?

Maybe we should N O T have given over two months advanced notice and just took it down imediately. Only THEN would your opinion about shafting our customers made any sense. No other FL MP server has done that and I doubt any will give over 2 months notice they're going down.

*special note* - There was an very slim outside chance the server would have remained up indefinately, now we are positive we've made the right choice to take it down with ungrateful, uninformed comments like this coming our way. Good luck finding another FREE server that cares as much as we did.

Bid BRASS ones to come on this site and render such a dispicable opinion as that. It fine to be upset, hell no one in the world is more upset than akataka or myself, but you took it a bit far in your post. I personally think you should make a public apology considering the work we HAVE done for the Freelancer Multiplayer Community as a whole for the past year. Just because you're extremely uninformed about what has been done behind the scenes to enhance the FL MP community as a whole doesn't give you the right to publically humiliate us with your comments. {b} FOR SHAME!!!! {/b}

It's no exaggeration to say that most anyone in North America who's played Freelancer multiplayer has spent some considerable time playing on Elite.
You people set the standard and the benchmark for most of the other servers out there.
It is with some dismay that I witness yet again the thoughtlessness of some, and dispite what said fools may say you've done extremely well, your efforts were, are, very much appreciated.
Your server is aptly named, you and it are the "Elite" and it will be a sad day for true Freelancers everywhere when Elite finally closes down.

I know I'll get flamed for this, but some of GotNoRice's comments make sense.

For example, he stated his enthusiasm for the game was sucked dry... I personally can understand that. I have played this game for hundreds of hours since the game came out, and already a number of good servers have dropped out. Fewer and fewer US servers are available, and I sure as hell am not going to waste time on an overseas server. My point is this: the time it takes to set up a new character on new server gets downright boring and really can suck the fun out of the game. It is time consuming, it is tiresome, and gets damn repetitve. I am SICK of starting fresh every single time I start on a new server.

As GotNoRice stated, it's not a Quake server where you can just jump in and have fun. If character files were stored client side instead of server side, so you could take your character to ANY server, it would probably be far less time consuming.

Elite was a great server, but it doesn't upset me to see it go. I just dampens my spirit and makes me less inclined to play Freelancer at all. That's what I agree on with GotNoRice.

Suggestion:
I know there are few Servers that wish to have larger communety or bigger traffic. YOU Stringer/Akataka can make some sort of arrangement with other Admin for transfering ALL accounts.

There is some old saying i saw long ago(386 asm days): "Hardware has limitations, Software doesnt". I wont going to guess for the reason why you shuting down the server, your full right and i am greatful for the past months. But characters are (at least in part) properties of the players. You been awesome admin, now im asking for one small step for your players.

Wow, it's just amazing what some people expect to get for Free. How many player accounts does Elite have, 1000, 10000, more? How big is that folder? How many hours/days would it take to sort through that to send them off to different servers on a player by player basis? and all for free.
If there's another server out there that wants to take on Elite's entire player base as one big file, let them step up and make that offer, otherwise this is moot.

Nothing is "for free".

That is so true, but I haven't been paying to play on Elite, have you?
Come on, it really doesn't take that long to build up a character on another server does it?
I think they're being very generous in giving everyone 2 months notice, they could have done like a lot of others and just pulled the plug without giving any notice.

Doc, what gets frustrating is spending a few hours getting built up a new server after your old one announces its closing, only to find out the new server disappears the next day or two. It is NOT fun starting out fresh 8, 9, 10 times on new servers, just to find the next server that will actually be around longer than 2 or 3 days. What's more... I haven't been able to find a new server that is stable, will be around for awhile, and above all, has players on it. I've had to settle for servers that usually have no more than 3 or 4 people on them.
