24/7 Seattle Based Lag discussion

Here SysOps can list their MultiPlayer server info and users can send feedback to their SysOps. Or just talk about the MultiPlayer servers they play on. This is not about MultiPlayer in general - please use the MultiPlayer Forum for that!

1. Brian_Piltz
2. Seattle, WA
3. Cable - 2.2 M down/128k up
4. I had several lost connections on Monday night, but not many flags. Today, Wed around 3-4pm, I have been getting numerous yellow and red flags for up to 60 sec., but no lost connections that dropped me from gameplay.

Hope that helps

Where did I get my ship? A bunch of Xeno's, Red Hessians, and Gaian's chipped in their life savings for me. Of course their next of kin got the life insurance payoff.

dito there were several peeps on today between 3 - 4 and was the first time I had seen the red computer pop up.

Dont know if it had anything to do with the console kicking certain players off for cheeting???

Thanks for the info about the server!

Do you have any problem with us hosting dueling events etc?
If yes, how large would it have to be to password/close the server for the event?

Thanks,

Bone

1) User Name: Silent_Jay and Silent_Jay/JFP
2) Where are you playing from (State / Country / Province only needed): Tampa, FL, USA
3) Connection (Not just DSL or Cable either, actual bandwidth, 768k down 128k up for example) 540.2 according to ZD Net Bandwidth Speed Test
4) DIsussion (IE - Getting Yellow flags ever 30 seconds, Getting lost connection every 5 minutes):

Occasional yellows and a few reds, momentarily only. No noticable interuption in gameplay. And most importantly, NO CRASHES

Dueling events would rock.

To take down the server I would want the following

1) At least 1 week notice so that I can advertise it in the news and on lancers reactor.

2) Minimum of 30 players involved (you can recruit people to be "spectators, but at least 10 players on each side or involved directly in duel

3) List of all players involved, their E-Mails, and Account names.

4) Maximum of 2 hour time block for duel, 4 hours if you can get 50 players

5) Time Block must be off peak (peak hours are 3 - 10pm PST) or on weekends

6) NO MODS

7) At least 3 Referrees. These will inform me as to the winner of the duel in case of any awards. Also in case I can't be there (more than likely I won't be able to be)

8) Maximum of 1 duel during week and 1 on each weekend allowed

If you are interested in setting up a duel, and have already arranged to have the Full # of players, send the requested information to my E-Mail a minimum of 1 week + 2 days in advance. This will allow me to post information on the Duel at least 1 week in advance.

Possible award I can provide, 2 hours to winner's clan of uninterrupted server use. Your clan would get 2 hours (off peak or on a weekend) when you would have the server all to yourselves.

How about this:

You banned my ip because of this name "b0n3", so I cant connect. You solved my server problem so for that I thank you. I have to know the answer to this hatred of numbers? What is your problem w/ numbers in names? Did "The Count" on seseame street scare u as a child? If your goal was to loose players good job!

All that rain u must have alot of pinned up anger, so good luck w/ that.

By the way your server name has numbers in it. You better check that!

one more tip, since you are obviously a Jr. Admin, on a windows system in your root directory there is a folder called \Windows\System32 ...thats a bad folder may want to delte that too.

have a good one Archimedes (haha math guy)!!

hahahahaha bone u didnt get that quite right, i dunno what xp is like but nt, me, and 2k all have it in winnt/system 32

duling would rock put my name down guys thats one down. also do we need to close the server to everyone else? y not just say everyone interested meet at planet denver or something?

Hey Done, maybe if you didn't try to cheat on my server you wouldn't of been banned. Ohh golly gee wiz, what an amazing concept. You get banned if you cheat like it says.

On a side note, I delete names I don't like, I ban cheaters.

Banning cheaters it great! Banning people based on whether or not you like their name is not! Bone (b0n3) is not a cheater and it appears that you banned him based on his name. He is one of my best FL pals and when you banned him you lost quite a few players that would have hosted and invented many multiplayer events. You lose lots of great players that may have had a lot to offer, when you ban people based only on their name.

Unrelated to that. It is unneccesary to password the server for dueling competitions. Their are other types that do require passwording.

I don't really see any value in giving a clan or group use of the server all to themselves, but if that is what people like, then that is cool. It just seems to conflict with the purpose of Multi-Player.

So then, why was Bone banned? We told him about his original name and he changed it. I can understand you deleting names that aren't approved, but a complete ban? That's pretty harsh. But it's your server, so I guess I shouldn't say anything.

Anyways, nice server, I played again last night for a couple hours with no lag, not even yellow.

Post Fri Jul 25, 2003 3:59 pm

Why should a player need to have their name approved? If it is a public server, then free speech should be allow. Only vulgarity and things that upset the community should not be allowed. This rule is not for the good players or community, it is just something the admin gets a kick out of. He looks like he enjoys using his admin powers on people. On the other hand, it is better than an ever-absent admin that doesn't actively stop cheaters.

Back to the Lag subject.
Not telling you my user name. You might ban me for my comments on here.
I am on dial-up (56k) and it seems fine to me.
I am from Florida, USA
Occasional connection flag, but I havn't played enough to know for sure whether the lag is ok. I probable won't be playing here anyway, for reasons already stated.

Explain why you don't like numbers in names.

Hi,

7/22/2003 21:11:46 Possible cheating detected (Ship Related) by b0n3(xxxxxxx-xxxxxxxx-xxxxxxxx-xxxxxxxx)

Is that good enough?

On a side note, I don't like #'s in names. I like my server to be somewhat like th real world. Do you see people naming their kids j03 or B177?

Also this is not a public server per say. While it may be public on the internet, I own it and thus reserve the right to do with it as I please. I do not take money for running this server, yet I expend a lot of time, effort, and money to do so. Such is the way the internet is.

Nothing to do with Free Speech. That allows you to say your do not like my name rules, that does not allow you to set the rules for my server :-)
