7/22/2003 21:11:46 Possible cheating detected (Ship Related) by b0n3(

key words "Possible cheating detected"

this program has been known to make mistakes at times....but it did not say he was a cheat ... XXXX shammeth the monkey's !!!

I can see if a person keeps getting this but if it is now and then no, some people try mods and Freelancer Mod Manager does not unload them right, that screws their ini files a bit...all they need to do is reinstall their Freelancer...

And FYI it is not a good idea to post someone's account numbers on here with the amount of lammers that read these boards.

Think before you post

Well this is the first time in over 20 yrs pluse of gaming Ive ever been called a cheat so here it goes:

Your server never kicked me for any possible cheating..and I have seen that message before..

I don't think what you are posting is accurte. To shot to the point I think you are trying to fabricate your point to save face.

You made some silly rules (granted it's your server) but that dosent make them less silly.

I wouldnt trust anything you post.

I had about 6 other players w/ me the entire time I was on your server and I know that they could all verify in that I was never kicked for cheating.

Don't try to bash me because you cannot make a logical reason for you stupid rules.

***I would also like to ask the Admins of this server to please block out my ID, so real cheaters cant use it for pirating purposed***

Idiot jr. admins geeeeez

Post Sat Jul 26, 2003 3:46 am

and btw at the time that I played your server I had never loaded a mod, so there is no way that was the issue.

I smell a lock coming. Is this thread going anywher ebsides down the tubes?

Ok, I have no intention of flaming the seattle server. I have heard a number of good things about it from other players.

However, I would also like to state something.

Bone is not a cheater. I am 100% positive of this, and believe me, I hate cheaters. Banning him over a 'possible' cheat kick was not fair, and qualifies as a mistake. I think we as players have a moral right to expect fairness from admins, and a right to post when it is not recieved. Keep in mind that I understand that on a server with 1000's of accounts, one or two unfair bannings is not a bad average - mistakes do happen, but I like to hear of them nonetheless. Believe me, if Bone was banned for cheating, then that WAS an unfair banning. Add one to the 'mistake' statistics..

ps: I myself have recieved a cheat kick erronously during a laggy moment and remained miraculously unbanned on Browclops. I most certainly was not cheating.

My high level account was deleted for being spelled thus:
"0bsideo"
Do you see why? DO YOU?
Yop, I don't either.

I was quite excited about this server, seeing that it is hosted in me own city, had decent ping, etc.
Oh well.
I think, Gene, that you should (if you do not already) serve on the Seattle city council or possibly get your self on to a key corporate controlled board that is able to make decisions in the city. (sound transit would be good..)
Your irrational, overbearing, and mindboggling logic would be very representative of our city's decision-making ability; everything is "for the community" but nothing gets done, except giving everyone somthing to bitch at each other about.. Sounds familiar doesn't it.

If you want to excercise these types rules on YOUR server, please password protect or DO NOT ADVERTISE IT; leave it for those that you "trust and want" to connect to it... you may play God with them.

1) It is password protected and you have to read the message "Read Server Rules" "Naming Rules Mandatory" before you can read the password to logon
2) This is how I run my server. If you don't like it there are 500 other servers to play on. Just most of them can't handle 50 players. I try to keep my server clean in ways I want to. This is my choice.

I like to leave the server open to those who play by the rules. Including the Name rules I have setup. I don't think having a name rule is to much to ask for. Is it that hard for people to follow such a simple rule on the internet for a change?

Apparently not for most people. As just a small minority seem to be having a problem while the vast majority are logging in just fine.

According to Genedefects Statistics 1 of every 8.5 players accounts on average are banned from his server. It would be interesting to see what the ratio for Elite server is and an average from other popular servers. In addition, there has been at least one 100% server character wipe and another 50% character wipe.
It is a privately owned server, but it is opened to the public and the rules are created at genedefect's descretion.
When an admin hosts his own server, he makes an implied guarantee from data/character loss. Obviously Seattlebased does not honor or have this type of guarantee, which can be seen by the huge amount of character deletions, corruptions, and banning. I think their should be a disclaimer, that will cancel that guarantee, thus making it more fair for the players. The following is an example.

SERVER NEWS:
_____"Play at your own risk. You may be randomly banned or deleted from the server and are held at the mercy of the admins personal preferences and whimsical banning decisions. Current banned/active account ratio is 1 of 8.5
_____Server rules and the Admin's enforced preferences.

All true, Gene; I did, however follow your rules.
In fact I had created 3 other characters that thought
might be "grey" as far as your naming convention is
concerned so I deleted them myself to be sure I WAS following
the rules that I DID read THOROUGHLY. It not my negligence that
is at fault here, it is your irrational intolerance.
In your rules, it is stated that names will not be allowed that
mix letters with numbers to the point that they are confusing and
irritating; my name in no way resembled the example you quoted
in the text and I thought I was within the rules.
How about a message to me to let me know that you still didn't "like"
my name? I would have easily transferred the equipment and credits to
a new "complying" name and no harm done.
Instead you erased, willy-nilly-I-am-god-like, many hours of coorperation and
fun that I'd had, not too mention a loan from my friend Ghostrider to
help establish me on 24/7 Seattle Based so that we could have fun.

Can you honestly say to me that you are incapable of empathizing, or at LEAST, conceiving of my frustration?

This is supposed to be fun, man. Remember?

I also am very much put off by the fact that my very polite and sincere requests
for help in the other threads related to your server, as well as an email sent to you asking for you help and information when this happened, went COMPLETELY unanswered.

You did however JUMP on to my post in THIS thread, as soon as my tone became even slightly sour, after I'd figured out for myself what had happened.

HelluvanAdmin y'are.

Perhaps because you're hijacking a thread? this one is intended for lag discussion. Create your own grievances thread if you will. Your crybaby posts should be deleted from this thread so that people that actually want to participate in accordance with the original topic can do so.

Post Mon Jul 28, 2003 8:49 pm

Fear Factor: there are many posts previous to mine that have
dealt with the issue I am speaking to, which is why my original post
to this thread does not sound nonsequitor.
And why are you calling me names because I'm voicing a legitimate greiveance?
Fun, everyone... Fun.

In principle, though, you are entirely correct and I will move this discussion from here with apologies to all who feel as you do; just say it better next time please.
Cheers.

On a side note, I don't like #'s in names. I like my server to be somewhat like the real world. Do you see people naming their kids j03 or B177?
___________________________________
Who names their child Genedefect?
Character names are just like stage names. They are not sweet names given to little infant gamer children by their parents. Very few of the names currently being used are normal names that a parent would give their child. They are statements made by the individual players or characters. Parent given names sometimes do have numbers in them. Like Jeff Goldstein the 3rd as a made up example.

Unless the name is vulgar or offends the general public on your server, then you shouldn't be messing with it. You have offered to store the intelectual property of others, and therefore, you should be working to keep it safe not going out of your way to delete their characters. (Of course you consider it your property) If you are going to enforce your name policies, then you need to do a better job at making people aware.

Fear Factor,
I agree, we should start a thread on Seattlebased server greavences. Genedefect should create a new Lag thread. When someone flames him, he should direct them to the greavance thread and do not respond to their greavance in the lag thread. That will help keep in under control.
In addition Fear Factor, you are not on the topic. I don't see any posts where you added your input regarding server lag. You merely insulted and disrespected everyone that has already been pissed off by the admin. You seem to be having fun adding to the flames. Edited back in: "Mind your own business."***
