I spent some quality time on this server last night. Yep, lag all over the place but it wasn't making it unplayable. I spent a lot of time in Liberty trying to explain to peeps that there was not PK'ing in Liberty...they just don't get it. Read the server news, how hard can that be?

I may have found a home...as long as I do my part to keep the cheaters/modders/Liberty Pk'ers in check. I'll copmnsider myself a "quasi" policeman.

I'm not sure of WarDragon is a cheater or not, how high of a level is he?

He is clueless alright. He begged me for funds back when he was level 1. I keep on getting newbies begging me for funds. I redirected Wardragon to come read the spoiler forum to learn how to do the trade routes as he didn't even know how to trade..

To make a long story short, after about 1/2 to 1 hour of exchanging messages, he finally learned a couple routes from the spoiler forum. I asked someone to give him 50K to help him get started and logged off. Next time I saw him, he's level 13, yesterday, he became level 20..

Anyways, he is probably a kid. I said hi to him later and he won't respond. I guess those people prefer easy freebies without work themselves.

I had another level 8 player claiming he's stuck in Hamburg. He said someone broke their promise and didn't give him 350K. He wants me to help him because he is stuck in Hamburg. When I asked him how much, he said 350K. God...get a clue...

I refused, I asked him what kind of ship, he said it's a ****ty ship and he can't make it back to liberty. I offered him to buy the best shield his ship can use plus bot/batteries. He promptly logged off..sheesh.

I gladly help newbies, answer questions, give out start funds. I, however, refuse to help people who refuse to help themselves. I do not want to create another class of permanent welfare recipient in Freelancer, or worse... I would hate myself for having helped ****s to start later

I hate it when people ask need money for food besides the road. When you stop and offer to give them some food, they said they don't want food and instead, they want money..

That level 8 player in Hamburg, really reminds me of those kind of people. If you are truly stuck in Hamburg and you want to get back to Liberty, isn't my offer of buying stuff for your ship good enough? My feeling is he just wants easy money...

I was stuck in a system with less than 100 credits, one gun, 1 nano, 2 shields and a ship that was in need of repairs. I made it back to the relative safety of Liberty by plotting a course that didn't take me into harms way. I felt like I earned my golden star for doing it on my own.

I don't mind helping new players, but it's a gift, not an entitlement for pete's sakes. You do feel better about earn your own way, that's a given.

"another class of permanent welfare recipient in Freelancer"

funny

just wanted to post about a 'griefer', otherwise known as PK, some nut by the name of 'YOU', using his advanced ship to go on a killing spree.

on that topic, about no PK in liberty, shouldn't that be changed a bit? I've heard some good points so far that not all PK is really so bad.. what if it's part of a role someone is playing. Say someone want's to be some super liberty policeman, and then they see tons of drugs being smuggled. No PK? Then how is that policeman supposed to do his or her duty? The same would go for pirates too, right?

Certainly people that just park at manhattan, and start blowing up every ship, that should be, and is, banned. But then if it's someone still in a starflier with class 1 weapons, is it still really bad, as opposed to someone in an eagle loaded with nomad guns? In the first case, most people could defend themselves, while in the second there's no chance...

Merchant_of_Venice , you sound more than fair, its good you didnt actually have to waste any creds on these people. 350k? sheesh

I remember when I first started , a player offered my 700Mill for farious reasons , now this guy is a good'un , but I mean , but not part , but all the game is about progressing , getting better weapons , you know playing!

It's sad. I used to hand out 50K without blinking my eyes because making money is so easy once you get eithr eagle/titan/sabre or hump/drome.

The problem is...often some of these players come back and ask for more. It starts to get on my nerve when one of the person I gave funds to ask me if I can get him a better ship. He topped it off by asking me to buy the ship for him...grrr

Give me a break, for crying out loud, did you even play freelancer? Don't you know you can't buy ships for another player? God...

It's incidents like that forced me to be more selective on helping newbies. Besides, I died a couple times due to newbies asking me questions. If I don't respond, some of them are quite rude..sigh

We really really need a /ignore function in freelancer. I keep on getting peppered by clueless newbies. Some are fine, just need a bit of help and they're on their way. Unfortunately, there are quite a few newbies who just want you to buy ships for them, give them lots of money...all promise that he will help you in the future..

I'm sorry, I'm getting bored with freelancer. I've done everything in the game that I can think of, except 2.

1. demand protection money from player. I've pirated NPC cargo, etc. so I had my fun with pirating already.

2. Make everyone friendly/neutral with me. I think it's possible when I read the empathy.ini file but I haven't put it into test. It involves too much time and some bribes to achieve... It's easier for me to run routes while working and gather a couple million there

I appreciate the "future help" from those newbies. The truth is, I've also made some friends in freelancer. We help each other out in new servers. For example, I befriend someone from Europe, he gave me a million on an European server. I paid him back on elite by giving him about 1.5million a few days later. I'm afraid vets like these can help me a lot more than newbies who doesn't even want to learn how to help themselves

well trying to get back onto the topic, that of "24/7 Seattle Based"...

I noticed it's been going down apparently under heavy load, only to surge back up again, much like the Alpha Centauri 2 server. Is this a feature of one of the server tools?

It might be a great feature that actually helps any problems, however if it is like the Alpha Centauri 2 server, every time the server restarts, all ship wrecks respawn. This in itself leads to serious unbalancing problems. Basically any player can just head straight for any wreck for a quick 10-20-50-100K boost, not to mention access to tons of free weapons, both low class, and those very high class 10 weapons.

We had an interesting time today on Seattle 24/7

A bunch of us in front of Manhattan decided to run a trade to Hokkaido. The number of players interested kept on increasing. In the end, we had to ask some escorts to just fly with us because I can't invite any more people to the group. This is the first time I've ever encountered that message.

Anyways, our huge convoy had 4 escorts and rest of them are freighters. I was accidentally banned and disconnected twice. By the time everything is sort out, I was alone in Colorado system and had to group up.

To make a long journey short, by the time we arrived in Hokkaido, our convoy is down to about 10 people only. Once we unloaded our goods at Hokkaido, we bought more goods and ready to head to Magellan for some members to buy Dromedary (we had an assortment of rhino, mule, cleysdale, dromedary, pretty much all freighters in the game, interesting group). As the group heads out, pirates demand cargo. One escort stay behind to provide time for us to escape
as rest of us traders don't like to drop our cargo. The brave escort died in the process and rest of the group wait for him to show up at Hokkaido/New Tokyo jump gate. Just when the escort is about to get there, disaster struck! A player pirate/PK named Cpt.Galaxy decides to demand us to drop cargo. Before we can respond, group member start to die. It was ghastly to watch death message every few seconds as this pirate is in an eagle equipped with nomad weapon and cannonball...

Lesson learned, when a huge convoy is going, dont' advertise so much, it attracts player pirates too

We still made money, thanks to first leg of the trip but we also lost some money because of cargo loss. Ouch.

That was fun, I didn't know there is a limit on # of people you can invite into your group.

Oh, and the escort player that died in defending convoy...was piloting a star cracker. He got a barracuda in the end. He was richly rewarded for his service. It's unfortunate his little ship can only take down that eagle's shield but not killing it, starcracker is not a match for eagle....

I logged onto this server two days ago. It was my first time on a Freelancer server. I played for about two hours, never spoke to anyone, never asked for money. I flew around making a little money in New York slowly, got a slightly bigger ship, made a little more money. I had less than 10k and a crappy little ship when I logged off. I never fired a shot and never broke a rule. The next day the server was down. When it came back on line I had been banned. I was using the name Kiddknapp. I am sure I was banned by accident because I never even came close to causing a problem. I really hate to start over again which has kept me out of all servers ever since.

Hey, just wanted to let you know so I don't get in trouble, some guy dumped 14 million on me and that will show that I'm a cheating (considureing i had about 30k of money before i got the 14mil) could you somehow edit my char (my name is Sputnik on the server) and remove the 14 million? I don't really want to be banned from this server as I've started to play everyday on it. I don't know if I should rejoin it with the 14mil or not as i'm not sure if the guy i've gotten money from is legit.

Tried the server last night and just wanted to say thanks for a great server!

I've only tried 3 or 4 other ones, but this is the first one where I didn't lag (outside of my own ISPs occassional hiccup) whenever some action started up. I was even able to duke it out with 10+ Zoners without lagging!!

KiddKnap, sorry but I banned you for the name. I hate to put it this way, but people should learn to think about others before creating their names.

On a side note. My new DSL connection is up (YEA) But my new DSL modem isn't here yet (BOO)

I should have it tomorrow when I get off of work, so expect to see a drastic increase in player limit for gaming on the weekend

Ehm? What the heck was I banned for? Let me guess, you're hypersensitive to names... Pardon me for using part of the screen name I've used for about 10 years now... O.o Heck I've even gotten junk snail mail sent to me w/ that screen name.

If you're going to be that touchy about names then start deleting characters instead of banning them, then post the names here. As it stands, I can't even log in to start over with a new name. Kinda harsh punishment for having a name you didn't like, no?

I totally agree!

Genedefect its your server , your the boss , the king heh, you an do what the f you want you pay for it man! , but isnt there a better way? I'm a good player, as I'm sure alot of oher 'banies' are! I never thought about my name because I think its ok , no weird letters , on MaSSiv3 Mixed caps, and i'm sure others feel the same way.

My last name is Knapp. How do I go about creating a new account with a new name? And how does anyone know what will and won't offend you?
