Here SysOps can list their MultiPlayer server info and users can send feedback to their SysOps. Or just talk about the MultiPlayer servers they play on. This is not about MultiPlayer in general - please use the MultiPlayer Forum for that!

24/7 Seattle Based

Hello,

I run the "24/7 Seattle Based" Server

I am doing my best to keep it Online, Fast, and Stable
Since I fixed my stability and online issues, I am now concerned about the "Fast" portion

This is where I need your guys help. If you play on my Server, I would like you to post here when you see lag. Be sure to include the following

1) How much lag (description, ie - Once in a blue moon ships skip around, yellow icon, Ships skip every other second, red icon)
2) How many players were connected
3) Location in the world (ie - what state you are in, or what country if outside US)
4) You internet connection (56k, DSL 786k down/128k up, Cable w/ 256k up, T1, ect...) Be sure to include the bandwidth
5) Time of day PST (please convert to Pacific Standard Time)

My goal is to get this to 75 players+ supported at one time.

If anyone is wondering this is the systems specs for the Server
3.06 ghz P4 w/ Hyperthreading on (FLServer is using the HT)
1gb DDR400
DSL 1.5mb down/ 384k up

I'm in Phoenix, AZ, dsl 768K up and down, getting a 160 ping, and barely any lag at all, except a littler earlier today (4/12/03 18:00 PST).

Are there any specific rules for this server? Player attacks still allowed?

I currently allow player attacking, but this option may be disabled in the future

There is to be no PK's in Liberty systems
No cheaters (I wish I could easily enforce this one)

Other than that, I encourge empire/guild building and empire/guild wars. That is part of the fun of the game.

the server crashed around 20:45 PST (04/12/03), just a bit after the "console" said -i won't be checking in again for another 12 hours-

Server is back up. Deleted an account with a name that was, not normal. Server didn't like that.

As an additional note.

Any accounts w/ user names that are obscene or discrimentory, I reserve the right to delete or ban on spot.

Apparently clarification needed.

This server is pk for now. But may change to not PK unless people can refrain from killing newbs in Liberty.

I encourge group/kingdom wars, but please keep it outside of liberty space

Well thanks to one jack ass, my server is under assault and can not stay up longer than 5 minutes.

He didn't like that I banned him for creating a super ship by manhatten.

At least I had the largest server for freelancer out there for a weekend. I had a constant 50+ players and it was almost completely stable and fast.

But now, unless someone can tell me how to track down this guys IP and ban him permenantly from connecting into my server, it may go down, permenantly...

Been on your server for a day now and it is one of the best. I live in Kentucky and ping is ok, I have dsl, at times i get in the yellow and with large battles in the red at times however overall not bad of a connection to your server.

I have been trying to roleplay on this server since there are so many players on. I run a Rhino basically from the New York to Bering systems and have hooked up with one other player, Angeles, to start a shipping company (name pending). We had a blast last nite running arms from Detroit Munitions to Freeport 2. Also I would like to mention Phantom Harrsasser, as he really got us going, hopefully he will hook up with us again .

As far as PvP, it needs to stay. This is part of MP that is vital in my opinion to create player interaction wether good or bad. Last nite I got hit by a bandit name Chibi_. I was full of consumer goods when he told me to drop my cargo. However at the time I really did not know he was talking to me and he blasted me. I was caught off guard or I could have escaped or at least nailed him, it just surpised me and I froze up. However you may need to hire a few players in different ranks to help you "police" the different systems especially when one is killing rank 1's at Manahttan. I try to watch people, I by no means have a strong Rhino, however I could hold my own, i try to help if i can if someone is being greifed etc.

The only things I see right now that need to be addressed in order to run a good server like Seattle Based, would be a two fold problem. One, hopefully the server patch that is being worked on will help server admins stop hackers and cheaters and address the net code issue, and two, I think death needs to be a little more harsh in the fact I think we players should lose not only our cargoes etc, but also at least half of our money if not more! However this more harsh death rule should not be in place until the player hacking and cheating is fixed.

Long winded I know, but just wanted to say I have really enjoyed your server and hopefully I can help make this server better by trying to bring a personality to the server instead of just another ship flying around. Hopefully Angeles and myself, can get this shipping company off the ground and recruit a few others and actually create another faction within the server here.

I would also like to know what peoples opinions are on a possible future mod being applied ot the system that does not remove anything that is already present, just adds new systems, ships, ect...

Keep a watch on the Sol System mod. The guys is adding a earth like solar system. I have d/l the beta files but havent firgured out how to add them to the game dir yet. It is not compatiable to teh mod laucher, hopefully once he has it finished it will be compatiable with the launcher. Also the Renyen 1.6 mod is out, however it changes every aspect of the game, and the new version has added 11 new weopon types. It is on the home page of lancers here.

Also look at this now this might be very nice to add to a server or mod.

Genedefect, can you contact me directly when you get a chance? I might have some info for you that could enhance your server. Could benefit us both.

Hey Gene I have a griefer to report. He goes by the V. Level 38 hacker....even other highly ranked legit people could not affect his ship or anything. He was of coase hanging around Manhattan smacking people around etc. I lost 199 diamonds to the guy!!!!!!! One hit and i was gone.....and I had a Humpback with level 6 shield..dont remeber what kind...not a shbby setup....but jeezzz....anyway thought i would let you know.

He is a consistant problem, amoung others. I am mass banning people about every 8 hours right now. I am figuring out wonderful ways to track cheaters and getting a lot better at it.

Still a problem, but should be able to keep it in order a little better.

Well I wanted to avoid this, but it is time for a server wipe. I believe I can keep cheaters to a minimum (probably never eliminate them)

Good to see you actually care about the server I'd hate to see such a good setup go to waste from cheaters.
