I am running that app right now, the problem is that it restarts the server fine, but failes to get the server actually running. I still have to OK the page that you enter player#, server name, ect... in

If i could just get by that, it would greatly help the uptime of my server

Hey have any of you seen a person called "nomad" he cruises around in a nomad ship. I don't think that is possible what mode is that? I know you can get nomad guns but a ship?!?! I smell foul play here.

Well I just got banned so bye all and I swear I wasn't using any trainers or MODs. It was fun while it lasted I guess I'll make my fortue again. Oh an you wana know my secret? How I was able to give all those credits away? You know that guy "=TDW=Zirrer" who I posted before I and others were harrasing him to go away and he gave us 2 mil to shut up. Though we didn't it was a nice of him. heh... Since then I have given most of it away for people to have a jumpstart in the begining at leat it was for a good cause and I had my fun. I guess it is off to another server to trade drugs again *sigh* It was fun while it lasted folks maybe we can try tht 14 ship convoy thing again on another server another day...

9:10am PST, lost connection to server. Still appears in list with no ping. cant reconnect. And why did you ban Ariolander? he was good people. Oh, and about bumping the player max to 100, sounds like fun. Thinking about looking into mods, maybe helping figure out the PK thing. No promises

Ok, taking money from a cheater is as good as cheating yourself. That is why he was banned.

The money was illegially gotten in the first place.

I know he was a good player, as I had held many a chat with him in game, but I can't have that kind of money just flowing around without being earned in the first place.

Take for example that he said he was giving it to newbies to help them start out. At first glance this sounds cool. At second glance, you go hey! I didn't get that when I started!

Also, in the long run he isn't doing them a favor. Say I see someone just logged in and has 250k. What am I gonna do? Ban them.

My advice to everyone, if you want to help new people, get them a defender or a decent trade ship. After that, protect them on their routes, or help them do missions to earn themselves up over time. It doesn't do them any good just have a Mill or even a couple hundred thou just dumped on them and told where to go.

Now i know we are starting to get some high ranked or max ranked players. I also know a lot of you may have friends coming to the servers that you would like to help out.

The best thing I can say, is just be careful, build them up for a couple of days if need be. Just make sure they put in a good # of hours of play time before they just mysteriously hit Rank 20+ out of no where.

I am sorry because I am sure some people are getting banned when they shouldn't be. But because of the huge amount of additional lag that one cheater causes to the system, I have to take a hard hand to keep them out.

Just to give you an idea

65msec of player lag = some lag for players, but mostly unnoticble
100msec of player lag = noticable lag for most players (yellow or red connection flashes)

1 Normal player of Rank 1 - 30 = .5 - 1.0 msec player lag
1 Normal player of Rank 31 - 36 = 1.0 - 1.5 msec player lag
1 Cheater = 4 - 10msec of player lag

So for every one cheater you loose about 4 - 10 real players. Also if we get 5 or more cheaters into the game, lag hits at about 30 - 40 players vs being smooth at the full 50.

do cheaters use up more bandwidth?

Also, what's the criteria for banning them? I've seen on another server that I was able to get up to rank 30ish within a few hours. After that it was just a short time until I got super shields and amazing guns. This was all legit though...

and can't connect either, 17:30 PST (4/15/03). server is listed but no connection is possible

Ok, I have to be the first to admit that I accepted money from Airolander just last night. From discussions that he and I had, I have to believe that he came by it honestly. Anyone who understands the profit margin of the Drugs & Guns route with the Dromedary knows 2 mill is easy to obtain in just a few hours with the right factions. And as far as I know, he didnt didnt give out much more than 1 million overall. I think he did it just to have a reason to earn it again.

Il hold the money for now untill I get a rulling on what to do with it.

8:33 PM PST the server is still listed but can't connect. I live in Sacramento, California, and have DSL. It lags occasionally too, but thats usually only when theres 30+ people on it.

A couple of questions and concern:

What's the limit on giving money away to help out family and friend member? I like to play with my wife and since I'm already level 38 on your server with a couple million, I was planning to give her at least a million as I can make money very quickly. This doesn't include the amount I've already gave away to help out friends.

If I join a server that just restart. I can earn about 2million in approximately 90 minute. That takes a bit of luck (trade lane not interrupted too much, not much jump gate crowding, etc.) and it also requires you to be decent at dog fights as you need to fix your factions to get into profitable trades.

If you want to know how to achieve that, pm me. It's not applicable to newbies who can't fight in a freighter but if you're decent (like fighting 10 rhineland police in your dromedary) then you can pull the same thing off.

For right now, I am gonna say that I recommend against giving away more than enough to help people get started (say enough for a Defender and first route of goods)

I have many ways that I use to pick out cheaters, I will admit that Money + Rank considered vs. Time online is a huge factor, but there are other ones to.

I also know that over time as the server stays up longer and longer it is going to get harder to pick out the cheaters, but I am working on a solution to that problem to.

To answer someone above, yes cheaters take more bandwidth. That is a big part of the reason why I am against them. Expecially since I am getting a dedicated DSL line installed partly for this game (it is also for future titles I will host when they come out) I would like the most people possible to be able to enjoy it.

Also, understand that you are all using my bandwidth here. That's right, I pay for it. So, if I want to ban someone, tough luck. I do make a point of doing the best I can to be fair in banning, but in the end it is up to me, and if you are banned, please don't try to say, BUT BUT BUT... Think about it this way, if I can afford a dedicated DSL for this, it also means I work hard and alot for the money I earn. Thus I don't have time, all the time to cater to everyones wishes.

On the flip token, I do my best to cater to people.

In terms of server status

Monday April 21st I am due to get the dedicated line. At that time I will determine if I want to do a character wipe or not. As it sits right now that does not appear as though it will be neccessary. But we will see. At the time I will also raise the character limit to 100 players, I hope to increase to 120 - 128, but this will only be possible if I can keep the cheaters down.

The other night, I wiped all banned accounts on my server to give a chance to those that were cheating to come back and try to play fair. I will NEVER do that again. I had most of the biggest offenders come right back in cheating again. Almost all of them using the same Alias' too! (what the hell were they thinking!)

Sorry about the server outage today to. I got tied up with work, and then decided to hang out with a friend from work for a couple hours. Now curtosy of the new FLAdmin tool (thanks whomever wrote it) I have confirmed that if my server goes offline, It will autorestart itself. Only new issue is that it reallylikes to minimize itself, I wish I could disable that "feature"

Thanks for the ban man... I worked all night to work up like 1.5 million credits and then i try to log on today and i am banned. If you call trading cheating, then i must have been doing it.
