Mr. Chopsticks: Issue: unknown, under investigation. Server (not the Freelancer program itself) disconnected all clients at 10:18 and refused all incoming connections. It was acting very much like a drop all rule to everything, including packets from the firewall. It may be something simple like the NIC went looney. But because the NIC was still doing something, the failover NIC never started up. A simple restart of the server resolved the immediate problem at 12:24.

Freakzilla: Wassup, Freak? I caught Nympho outside my window last night and spanked him good. You need to keep your girlfriend under control I restart the program two or three times a day, and I try to vary the times so people in all time zones can acquire the class 10's. There are two times that I focus on most: EST morning and an hour or so before the evening's festivities to kick off any sleepers. Last restart time is always specified in Server News. If it's been 12-20 hours, it's coming up soon.

Twex: Ahh, the mighty Twex, who has won not one but TWO dueling competitions on Browclops. I look forward to grooming you for vermin. 1) The pipe is not the issue, plenty of bandwidth available (and I'm talking 3/4 of the pipe not being used even under load). 2) I have chosen 30 as the limit after months of consideration and weeks of testing for one all important reason: Dueling. You cannot duel effectively if there is any lag. It is simply too frustrating, even if your opponent is skipping a little bit, because everyone knows a couple shots can make or break a duel. The AI blows chunks, and you could probably win against it with 5 minute interval updates from the server. But dueling has got to be exact, precise, and with absolute flow from start to finish. That, of course, is only my opinion, but since I wear the Brow of Power . . .

What's going on brow? Feel free to b**** slap NYMPHO whenver necessary. I can't promise there won't be any retaliation though. Well, last night someone tried to sucker-punch the mighty freakzilla. Let's just say he got his freak on. I'm all for honest dueling but I don't take kindly to getting punked for no reason. One of these nights I'll make it to the sanctioned dueling brow. It seems I always log on just after the fun has begun. Freak out.

Urs was the 1st server i ever connected to
Thx

It would be nice to have on the server page (or whatever you call that display that comes up once you first connect to a server), some kind of agenda for the next 24/48 hours, like... Dueling outside Manhattan 10pm EST, or, Next Dueling: 10pm Tuesday in NY. Freighter only dueling this Friday @ 9pm, etc etc. I know a lot is on-spec but a little planning might be nice.
Thankies!

I think Twex is onto something. Obviously some events are planned on the fly and can't be "advertised" ahead of time, but I think you could plan some big events for certain times throughout the week. I think that would also help the turnout if people could plan ahead of time to be in a certain location. See what you can do browclops.

Post Fri Jun 27, 2003 4:22 pm

I would agree with that. I would fly to new york every time for events if i knew ahead of time

On the other hand, I'm very happy with the server as it is...

Hey Brow, ya ever consider adding an E to the end of your name? *L*

I've always thought your name was an alternative to "monobrow", and the missing E at the end of Browclops, when compared to a Cyclopse, was missing something..... one letter.... ; )

Adapt or not, grasp or not, tell me I'm totally outta it, or not.... *L* just a thought from the Mullet-Hawk...

Hellif,
Geez loweez, here I thought I had picked out something so funny and obvious, and I spelled it wrong! Been a long time since I had to read about Ulysses, but I did mean for it to inference a unibrow. 'Course, some other deviant mentioned that if you add an "n" to it as in brownclopse (or something like that) it refers to something so forbidden that even the monkeys of Primus do not speak of it. In any case, I appreciate your publicly bringing to light the fact that I cannot even spell my own name correctly Be sure to check over you shoulder frequently when on Browclops, the protruding foreheaded pilot in the Eagle will be me

I was wondering where the alpha brow had disappeared too over the past week, must have been proccupied with the fruits of primus...
Neways talking with the 'server police' last night about rules and regulations, and can I propose that if someone PK's on spec, then the rules for being hunted down by the police only apply to that one character name? It is not unheard that people have several ship accounts, such as a dueling account, a hunting account, and a trading account, all on the same server!
Here's a scenario: I'm flying along in one of my ships. Then I hear on system chat someone calling one of my friends an asshole. It just so happens that the person talking is a level 40 trader flying a drom with a cargo of bananna parts. So I stay quiet, see where they are heading, ambush them, and send them and the way of the dodo. Now, for this character I don't mind if the police come hunting me down. But if after being killed by the police, or avoiding them for a certain amount of time, I want to change chars and do some trading. I think then that the police should no longer pursue me, as now I am a lot more susceptable to being pirated/ambushed myself. If the original player I ambushed wants revenge, then they themselves can switch to a warship of their choosing, blow me up (or attempt to), and then run from the police.
It'd also be nice to have a console message list the 'wanted dead or alive' every hour or two. Or if it could detect when a wanted is on the server poll the message. Then when they die three times, they are no longer wanted. or something like that...
Just some thoughts

Wha? The 250k bounty on my head (rapidly gained) wasn't enough? *L* All I did was ask you to play rabbit, and suddenly *I* was the rabbit! Pity I was on dialup then, woulda been more fun if I'd have had a decent ping.

Anyhow, I was just askin' Brow *L*

Only reason I don't play on yer server more than Elite is that no events happen when I'm around, so it's kinda useless to level up there. : P

Post Sat Jun 28, 2003 5:58 pm

Oh yeah, Brow:

I ping your server @ about 100 ms. Not bad, really, but... on dialup I pinged 200-250 ms. For comparison, I hit Elite in about 15-20 ms. Yet we both seem to be on Comcast, if I remember correctly.

My real question is, are you able to influence the peering relationship? It seems to need improving, but I'm not entirely sure where the connection could benefit the most.

Hellif,
I am on Comcrap ([email protected]), the server however is on an entirely different full fledged T-1 at the office. I wish my home machine was that beefy

As requested, some lead time; Fair Warning! Fair Warning! Fair Warning!
July 5 at 8pm Eastern there will be a special event on the Browclops server involving 31 of your closest friends. Blitzraven will be footing the bill so it's his show, and he's the host. As usual, I will be behind the scenes and filling the airwaves with my frantic banter. It looks to be a Last Man Standing free-for-all with lots of dismemberment and throwing of feces. The following is Blitz's announcement.

[Blitzraven
First off I'd like to start by saying I hope everyone is having a great summer so far. Secondly I'd like to say thanks Browclops, you put together in my opinion quite a succesful server, now to the point. I know everyone, well most who are in the Browclops server rather often know about the events that have been occuring. Most of these hosted mainly by Browclops himself but some by others. I, myself have come up with several deep observations. One, I have found that Browclops and monkeys seem to be quite fond of one another. So?... what do you get when you mix a monkey with an event? Well total chaos, but other than that an event at Primus! And thats exactly what I will be hosting on July 5th, a royal rumble with +27 people able to use nanobots and shields. The winner receiving a 5,000,000 million credits reward. Of course, this is as I speak getting more and more organized but so far here's how this lil' shin dig is gonna roll. 3 guards, 2 at the docking ring, 1 at the jump hole. The people participating will be eligible to dock as much as they please before it begins, but after it does they will NOT be eligible to enter the docking ring nor the jump hole. The match will begin 20-30k away from Primus or more. anyone who comes in range of my guards either at the docking ring or at the jump hole will be fired at until they leave the guards range or get killed. This is required for several reasons. Number one, I don't want anyone trying to refill on nanobots and shields during the rumble. Two I don't want anyone leaving the area and trying to sit some spot in the system for the time being and then come back in the battle facing whats left of whos still in and they having full bots and full shields.. heh.. it's just not right, I mean this is not an enormous amount of money but still it's a pretty penny and I want to be able to give it to someone who deserved it. Now..since trying to prevent sharing is inevitible anyway... the winner may or may not give out some or all of the prize to someone else. Also this comes to my attention quite drastically...teaming..alliances..people come on.. you know as well as I do that if you do team with someone and take out the whole pickle that you're going to have to face them anyway, so fight for yourself in this whole ordeal.Now.. I probably have a bunch other questions but I think I've covered the basics so, any additional information speak with me personally, Blitz splitz...
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Email me, [email protected], to sign up. I will populate the 27 open slots as the emails come in. DO NOT REPLY HERE AS YOUR SIGN UP, I will not be counting replys posted as a request to participate. You may, of course, reply in comment to the event. I seriously doubt the list will be open for more than 48 hours so please be quick. I will be restarting the program that evening at 7:30pm Eastern and passwording it for the event. The password will be emailed to the participants in advance. Looking forward to a night of simian pleasure, with much beating of chests and eating of vermin -
