Visual System Maker: ALMOST COMPLETE!
The general place to discuss MOD''ing Freelancer!
this should be a joke at those people who thoght there will be a programmer who programs this handy tool
after this thread i WILL program some kind of VSE/C (Visual System Editor/Creator) and im sure i will done it and release it, but it will take some days/weeks
but i think its gonna be a breeze-but i need some time...im working alone
maybe there are peeps around here who can help me(im programing vb6.0)
these are my >>realistic<< plans:
-decrypting BINI files
-programing an ini editor and filtering the entries
-creating entries
-saving 'mods'
i think i need 2 weeks...

I heard of the Freelancer SDK
Why dont u work with the creaters of the SDK (Still not completet)
and do an "ALL IN ONE" freelancer tool ?
Ship / Item / System Editor in one !
u want to create a new ship ?
GREAT just add id !
give the ships properities, description etc, and the editor will do ALL work for ya ! inclusive dll editing (DLL 7)
same for system and items

Hello there
I read this post a couple day ago. It is very interesting I would be glad to test it and if it works right it would be great if it would be 3D. It is possible to make e 3D Editor where you could drop planets and bases all whats necessary is a base strukture programm which handels the ini files and commands. To make it 3D visual is possible with GLScene for delphi its a great opengl library and it would be possible to load a editable 3D system out of the ini, of course without all the textures but it would be handy to get an idea of the system you want to design. I would be glad to help at this project with my small knowledge.

This thread is seemingly a pain in the ass...
I've been looking at the Li01.ini
its 164 A4 Sheets Long... THAT IS A SH*TLOAD of code to write for one system... (not to mention all the supporting files)

Now maybe i shouldnt have looked at the Li01 System as its really 'Busy' in terms of how it features in the game, but looking at the worst case is always beneficial.
For a visual system editor to work right its gonna have to write the supporting files for each system as well, they'll all have to be indexed so it knows wheer to look if you make changes...
Basically, its gonna have to append, Universe.ini for each base and system,
has to create files for each 'roid field or other similar object, with appropriate names.
The bulk of the (system).ini file is apparently the encounter zones and patrol paths for each faction...
This little app will be a nightmare

I guess the app functionality itself won't be that hard, since freelancer is kinda limited with what systems can look like.
The hard part is figuring out how the systems are built, not only looking at the params in the ini files, but finding out ALL params that can be used, I'm sure some are there but just unused.
But then again, look at a level editor for Q3, it makes this one look like an easy job...

Id just like to add that this program is not affiliated with FLSDK.
FLSDK has a visual system editor (Not this editor) being written now, that is already showing progress (I have a alpha copy in my poseesssion.) It still has tons of work to do, but it is showing things in maps, properties of items, etc.
