Visual System Maker: ALMOST COMPLETE!

Well.. i was just wondering if there was a list of all the commodities with their names, like "Water" and "commodity_water" Me and my team (Junkie, and Datarecoverman) are working hard on the visual system editor. We just need a bit of info. The basics of the user interface are complete and we are going to release the beta PRETTY SOON!.. all we need is a little more info. thanx for the info

Thanx a bunch troop5, im sending it over to our main programmer now and i think the Graphical System Editor will more than likely be available by this weekend for beta... im not sure yet if we are going to release to a bunch of people or just a few post your e-mail in here if you might be interested in testing and i'll see what i can do. Oh another thing we were having a bit of trouble with adding new names for a system... i saw the instructions jigsawed all over this site and all of them seemed different. If someone would just post the solution in here it would probubly greatly speed up release. Also we are working on a clickable map to select location of system/base/stuff we were just wondering if the map with the co-ordinates for each system had already been made cause that might take a bit of time as well.

Notes on the GSE (graphical system editor)
1. We are working on a way for it to install and uninstall so that you dont have to screw up your server or universe. (and a easy installer to do so)
2. We want to make sure that server to client sync (in other words the same .ini files) is simple and painless. (we are gonna try and make it clean)
3. We are working on a location map so you can just click and place (and if that doesnt work out at least the map will show you where is open)

Reasons why we are doing this...... 5 days man... 5 days and every one of me and my team and all 15 people who played in our server had reached the max level with the best ship in multiplayer. Some of us after a few good trade runs had the best stuff within 10 hours. So we want more.... we loved what we had but we want more!!! More wars more trade and more difficult leveling up....

Azazel,

Sounds great man. Keep up the great work. I'm spec'ing/researching the possibility of creating a random universe generator. I was thinking of the easiest way to get the same files to the users without having to download everything and the easiest way I could think of was using a Seed # that's supplied by the system maker.

That way, if the system maker and the client's use the same seed # then they get the exact same systems. The problem then comes in with adjustments to parameters (how many planets in a system, how many gates, etc,.) which could just be part of a config string which could be generated based on those parameters.

Does that make sense?

I would really hope that there was a way to do this without having to download maps and data and just use a tool. In the "Server comments" you people could include the seed and the config string which would parameterize your application so a client could easily generate the same universe on their end.

Ok...so going through that sounds more complicated than I first thought....

This system stuff makes my head hurt... I've managed to make an entire system for myself, but I always mess up something small (like the time I put the jumpgate a little -to- close to Manhattan, and got toasted...heh) and still can't figure out how to change the names/infocard stuff. Ah well.

Azazel, I'm working on a flexible mod manager/installer for the FL SDK project. You could just tell me what you need in an installer (look at my thread for the current/future feature list), and I can add it. No sense in re-inventing the wheel, and no sense in having mod installer wars
