I'm getting a bit frustrated trying to texture my model. I know from observation there are some fantastic texture-er people out there, so I'm curious how you guys go about creating a texture to apply in 3ds or Milkshape. If you guys could give me a small rundown on the basics that would be great.. remember I'm a complete newbie to this so be specific and include basic principles or I'll end up wandering around your advice like a lost kid. THANKS! Hopefully I'll have this Gunboat over and done in a few days!

quick questions:

will these be a part of the SW TC mod that's being discussed?
from the descriptions, these sound like pretty weak fighters. if used in the SW TC mod will all ships have scaled down hull health so the TIEs aren't ridiculously weak compared to other ships?
have the guns' swivelling been reduced?

maybe these questions have been answered somewhere in this thread, but i can't find them in the random pages i looked in.

I'd imagine that these are merely the pre-mod releases. Just from a logical standpoint, all of these ships will be used in the SW mod - but you're right, the stats are wrong. IE. the fighter should be slightly less manuverable than the defender, etc. TIEs will be something hard to work in because of the dogfighting style (hard in the sense that they aren't supposed to have shields.. maybe lots of nanos?) It all depends on how completely they're remaking the universe. I'm sure they'll figure it out.

actually, the TIE f should be more maneuverable than the defender so there's an actual reason to use it. it only has 2 weapons after all. more balanced that way.

also, the TIE defender should have 6 guns: 4 lasers and 2 ion cannons

the TIEs should have no shield (minus the defender and the advanced), so maybe their hull strength should be scaled up in comparison to other ships with shields to keep it fair.

the TIE interceptor and fighter shouldn't have missle launchers (again minus the TIE bomber, defender and advanced). perhaps laser strength should be scaled up to make it about 4 hits to kill any ship, excluding powerful fighters and frieghters like the YT-classes. more star wars-y that way. lasers on interceptor are in the wings, in case anyone doesn't know. defenders lasers are in the bottom wings, 2 per each, and its ions are in the top wing.

TIE interceptor should be more maneuverable than all the ships, but have less armor (it's as maneuverable as the awing). TIE should be close, but not as maneuverable.

nanobots should be renamed to someting like astromech energy cells or ERDs (emergency repair droids)

perhaps remove the jet trails. in star wars they weren't seen on TIEs. they were slightly visible in other fighters like the xwing.

TIE bombers have more armor than TIE f, but not as much as defender. they should have 2 lasers. they also should have a really high cargo capacity for missiles.

Assault gunboat should have the same hull as defender. i don't remember exactly how many lasers they have, but i think its 2. they should also have good cargo for missiles. they should be as maneuverable as the Sabre i'm thinking.

MIssleboats should be about as maneuverable as a titan. they should have a giant cargo hold for the roughly 200 missiles they can carry. only 1 laser though.

I"ll post more as people make more models and so on

Sweet. Just... Sweet.
I almost fell out of my chair when I saw the Firespray. I do wonder though (since they are only screenshots) does it have a transparent/translucent cockpit? Would be cool if it did. Especially if you could kit up the pilot like fett.

I was reading through waiting for someone to ask for the other (prettier) versions of the tie fighters, but no one did, so I'll ask. :p

(Since I'm new to the forums and don't really know the rules, I'll post links to the pictures instead of the pictures themselves.)

heheh those TIEs don't fit in the SW universe at all. but you're right, they do look pretty cool. especially the one that looks like a chiss clawcraft on crack.

i think there are more than enough star wars ships to put in the game. in fact, i can list an endless number of them.....but i'll save that for when the mod is in the making.

The stats for the ship by all means are not set in stone. Thats one of the reason why we have not released any infocards for them yet, because we expect to change their stats over time depending on players feedback and mod devleopment.

I have been looking into capital ship lately, and i discovered a few issues with large ships:
1. Lodrange don't seem to work correctly, ships still disappears at close range with 0, 999999
2. The docking scenes still needs a bit tweaking, although its dockable but the camera angles still need work.

So here are the ships planned for the release of next pack (might take longer than usual, we are trying to get the capital ship issues resolved):

(All pilotable ships will have their own buying icon)
Pilotable Ships
1. Added red running lights at the back of the cockpit ball for Tie fighter, Tie Defender, Tie interceptor to simulate the two red exhausts: In Progress
2. KSE Firespray class attack and patrol ship : Complete
3. YT-1300 (mesh by GAG and textured by DA): Complete
4. Tie Advanced X1 (vader version): In Progress
5. Tie Bomber: In Progreess

Non-pilotable ship (still has many issues yet to resolved)
6. Imperator-Class Star Destroyer : Been Tested

I have this really, really detailed model of an ISD, but not only does it have too many pollies that Milkshape can't load it, if it was in Freelancer it would lag out even the best of computers ^_^ I also have a lot more models like the SSD, Death Star, X-wing, B-Wing, A-wing, Droid Control Ship, but they all have too many pollies! Guess I just have to wait for you guys to get around to it, 'cause I can't model worth a damn.

rapid, those are looking good. even if it isn't perfectly to scale, its definitely more than satisfactory seeing it in fl.

do you have a sceenname for AIM or AOL? cuz i'd like to talk to you about some things that could be done to make this mod great. i've posted some ideas and info about what ships should go into what factions. please get in touch with me, either through instant messanging (my sn is SiddDarthSidious) or email (mine is [email protected]) i have an extensive knowledge of star wars starships, and how they relate to eachother in weaponry, hull and speed. i want this mod to be as successful as possible, and i'd like to join your team.

I hate to press, Rapid, but I was wondering if you were making the cockpits of your ships transparent/translucent. I only ask because I remember something in one of the other forums about making cockpit transparencies.

Transparent cockpit is under consideration right now. No promises until i can try and see how well they look on the models.

will it mess with speed? cuz if so, leave it out. it isnt' easy to see through the cockpit transparisteel in space anway.
