YES! YES! oh GOD YES!

This is where you can discuss your homework, family, just about anything, make strange sounds and otherwise discuss things which are really not related to the Lancer-series. Yes that means you can discuss other games.

Antec P182? Zzzzzzz.....

Antec 900 all the way.

By the way, I strongly suggest you get yourself a better CPU cooler. Assuming the stock ones can actually manage the enormous heat produced by those cores, it'll sound like a bloody jet engine. You can easily get a good one for less than £40. However, you may have a little trouble installing it if Gigabyte have been playing silly buggers and installed enormous capacitors around the CPU.

Otherwise, it's a very nice system.

(With regards to operating systems... I would have got XP x86 and Vista x64. That way, you'll pretty much guarantee that everything will work and not live in fear that MS won't arbitrarily drop support for your OS overnight. Use seperate hard drives, obviously. )

EDIT: @JDawg
Unfortunately, Newegg don't ship outside the US (they might do Canada, I'm not sure) but that isn't really a problem. Despite the fact that the dollar is getting pwned really, really hard by the pound, anyone who wants to order computer equipment is going to have to pay some obscene import duties (including VAT). It's much cheaper to simply order for us to order from UK companies (or fly over to the US and pick it all up*).

*I say that, but I don't fancy queueing all night outside the US Embassy in London for a Visa.

visa waiver!

(although they might well not be very impressed at the airport if you turn up for a flight out of JFK with a suitcase full of electronic components - one way trip to Gitmo, methinks!)

tET, Antec 900? Bleurgh!

also, i didn't mention it because it wasn't one of the specs of the PC, but i AM getting a CPU cooler (Noctua NH-U12F)

remember Laddy, i've been building PC's since the Mullah himself taught me!

i'm not going to get Vista YET. maybe after SP1, maybe later still. but vista is still to crap for me. i'll be using a combination of XP x86, XP x64 and LATER, Vista x64

The OSs will be on a separate hard drive (160GB SATA) which will be partitioned in half. all data and programs will go on the 400GB drive.

<edit>

And, the "D" series of gigabyte mobos use solid-state caps that are MUCH smaller than Electrolyte caps, so fitment issues aren't an issue, as it were.

Not to mention less risk of electrolyte leakage.

pah! computers, i'd rather have a leica.

Post Sun Sep 30, 2007 4:45 am

under ordinary circumstances, so would i Ben. but seeing as i don't currently have a computer, i need one before i can get a nice shiny new camera-gizmo

Post Sun Sep 30, 2007 7:19 am

lies and slander! there's still film..

Post Sun Sep 30, 2007 7:33 am

apparently, there's something of a renaissance of film photography, especially in Eastern Europe. I have it reasonably good authority that none other than Vladimir Putin (former KGB Colonel) is a big fan of experimental photography.

As you may recall, I haven't abandoned film yet either.

Post Sun Sep 30, 2007 12:14 pm

i'd use film more, but im hamfisted and end up killing half the roll before it gets in my camera

Post Mon Oct 01, 2007 3:29 pm

Film is dying, just admit it. In 10 years it will strictly be the haven of creepy old men who just can't let the past go.

Post Mon Oct 01, 2007 9:56 pm

Rubbish. i still use film. i've got an Olympus OM-10 thats older than i am and still ticking!

for example, i've got two fresh rolls of Film, (1. Ilford Delta 100 Proffesional) (2. Ilford HP5)

i do like film, but i adore the convenience of Digital.

Post Mon Oct 01, 2007 11:00 pm

I said dying, not dead. Digital is closing the gap and I give it 5-10 years before it can replicate all the goodness of film minus the hassles and at a price the common man can stomach.

I find it interesting to note that nobody has mentioned (or did I miss it?) that this thread is actually in the wrong forum. I thought that Mullah Moderator at least would have recognised that. Shame!
