I've often found Rheinland in Freelancer SP rather...strange. I mean, they have ships named after Viking mythology (think parts of Viking myths are similar to those Germans have) like Valkyrie, Wotan, Odin etc. Then they have a leader with a distinctive bad-guy looks and moustache. Might be a long shot though.
Anyway, i think Rheinland isn't a dictatorship, but are Bretonia and Kusari?

The House of Kusari occupies seven star systems, and is ruled by a representative democracy (as the other houses) with a one-chamber parliament and a Shogun as the representative/political leader...
Well, I do believe that settles it.

i'm tempted to join just to have something to do but last time i was so confused and worried about getting everything right i dropped out after like 3 turns.mebbe someone could give me a link to the old ones so i can study them? BTW was i the only one who ever chose hackers as a faction?

As for the first one, both CYOF 2 and 3 are avaliable for you to view. Go to Finalday's sticky on the top of the page to get links. However, the rules this time around will be easier to understand, so you (hopefully) shouldn't have any trouble.

Well, good luck with trying to own us. I for one, am not for sale. 
I hope you decide to play, and as far as faction choices go, I think that BMM, GMG, Hessians, Dragons, or Kruger would be good picks.
Though I think that you are only allowed to chose a minor faction, which would only leave Kruger, I think. Also might look into a corp like DSE, or something like that.
