*Sigh* You've missed my point. The whole idea of these games is that they aren't about a race to see who can do what first. If I had been so inclined I could very easily have launched an itty bitty attack on each of your systems. They would have been meaningless but you'd still have been stuck. I didn't becasue that's stupid. If we're going to say that battles totally close off a system then a rule should be instituted that requires *both* players to have made their initial moves. Otherwise it's just a race to see who can post first and that's really not what any sort of turn-based game is about.

Also, when you look at the rule it doesn't even make that much sense. Why would a battle close off a system? If anything both sides would pour in more and more forces in order to ensure victory. If it's done to keep the defender from re-inforcing retroactively then that's fine but we can't say that people are denied their initial moves because of an attack.

Edit: And YOU "destroyed" Vogtland AFTER I took it over. You and your position would be easier to take seriously if you at least exhibited some consistency.

If you want we can just assume this never happened. We'll both re-post our turns and once that's done we can start fighting. As it stands right now I don't see any good coming from this.

I'm not going to get into an OOC argument about the rule. I could, but this isn't the place to do it. What matters is that it currently is the rule in place. So deal with it. The forces I posted are correct, then.

What is a battle based around? Who can move troops first. Who makes the first move. Who can alter battle positions the quickest. Thats battle for you, universally. Whoever got to the plains of marathon first would have a longer time to prepare and defend. Whichever force attacks first is that which makes the decisive move that decides the battle. Which side can get to the trenches first can start shooting first. The force that shoots second always loses more soldiers. The one caught off guard by the enemy always falls in battle.

Read the edit. And make up your mind.

Ok, the thing is I actually did mean to post destroying Vogtland, but I forgot. Now that you mention it, destroying it after you reminded me wasn't fair so yes the base is yours.

I'm not arguing that point about battle and who starts it. I'm arguing that the game is based on the idea that there are certain aspects of the game that must stand in order for it to remain meaningful. As it stands the battle rules interfere with my ability to just go about the business of posting my turn. That is *not* the way it should be. Certainly whoever makes the first move should have an advantage but it shouldn't go so far as to say that the defender can't place and/or move his units as per the turn design. All we have to do is say that battles can only be fought after both people involved have posted their turns. I mean, hell, if you had waited to post the battle it's unlikely any of this would even be an issue. I'd have made whatever moves I wanted to and we'd then be able to go about our business of killing each other.

Ok, point taken, but its all about posting your movements and placements before you post your turn. Fast reaction. Otherwise it ends up with something like this, where New Berlin, Frankfurt, and Stuttgart all look like they's mine. You shouldve posted your movements first. sorry.

Post Mon Dec 27, 2004 10:38 am

What!? You didn't even give me a chance! You just went ahead and posted. You can't tell me what I should or should not have done, I didn't have a choice in the matter.

Oh, would you like me to act like the ancient egyptians and tell you everything I'm going to do? Welcome to the world of WAR. You attack your enemies where you see oppurtunity. That's what war is. I don't march around saying "I'm going to attack you at system x, just so you know" and I don't think anyone with half a brain cell does frankly--

unless of course they're motivated that way. which is fine...

Ergh. In case you haven't noticed, this is a GAME. It's not supposed to be a perfect reflection of reality. You want to attack me. That's fine. But at least have the in-game decency to allow me the posting rights outlined in the rules. They are the single most important aspect of this GAME. If they were to be compromised (as they currently are) the GAME would lose cohesion. All I want is to see the rights of all players to post their turn enshrined. It's really not unreasonable. Otherwise it'll just degenrate into people staying up all night so they can get the jump on the opposition and, to be perfectly honest, that's really stupid.

Post Mon Dec 27, 2004 11:13 am

you're right. but its a WAR game too which is supposed to set up the realistic terms of warfare in an accessible format.

Post Mon Dec 27, 2004 11:31 am

Well, if that's your argument then justify locking systems after battle is declared. Just how is that realistic?

Post Mon Dec 27, 2004 1:06 pm

Take that up with jacob.

Post Mon Dec 27, 2004 1:08 pm

Well he's not here, is he? And I'll be damned if I don't argue with somebody.

Besides, you brought up the whole realism thing, not Jacob.

Post Mon Dec 27, 2004 1:09 pm

No, I mean take your complaint about locking systems up with jacob. He'll be on later today I'm sure.
