Like everything else in FL...
Ships, Icons, Cityscapes, etc...
The Nebulae are 3DB MODELS, not images.
You would need to create the texture, and then apply it to the Nebula's model.
There is also a TXM file for each Nebula and I have know idea how that would be created.

Another thought: I am trying to learn how to tweak systems with FLE and notepad. Just downloaded about 15 megs of tutorials and programs to learn how to do this. If we wanted to spend some time tweaking the "atmosphere" of the sector map, I would be more than happy to help. I really liked how one had a sense of relative place in Freelancer with the maps and environments matching each other.

FLE (Freelancer Explorer?) can really mess up systems, so be careful using it.

By accident, I discovered that each system can be set up without a "Starfield."
Doing so gives a much darker feeling, similar to the original Privateer's.

Update:
Got 5 systems left...
2 need to be completely gone through...
2 have at least 1 gate/hole checked...
and the last one needs it's tradelanes and 2 more gates/holes done.
With any luck, I'll have that done today, or tomorrow.

I'll upload a copy to the ftp site after I finish these, before I start running through the missions.

Note:
I got a glowing revue of one of the new surprises.
So, I guess it'll stay in.

Update:
The Gemini Sector is done!
Still need to run through the missions, but otherwise, it's working.

I've just uploaded "Privateer: The Reckoning Mod Beta v3.0" to the FTP site.
(It's in the "Freelancer Mods" folder.)
Anyone with access is invited to try it out.
(Please don't reveal any of the new surprises on the forum.)

Depending on the number of errors, bugs, etcetera's, I figure it should be available on LR within a week, or so.

Update:
1st mission AFU!!!
The Donar part worked fine.
Joined formation with the Transports...
Entered tradelane...
Tradelane disrupted...
Exited tradelane at Pittsburg!?!!
Rogues attacked...
Transports no longer at Pittsburg, back over where tradelane disrupted!?!!
Go back, and rescue transports...
Join formation...
Circle tradelane rings again, and again, and again, as rogues attack!?!!
Leave formation to defend myself against the rogues!!!
The Convoy finally enters the tradelane, and goes to Pittsburg...
With King telling me how to follow...
Enter tradelane, reach Pittsburg, again, and get yelled at by King!?!!

Really wierd way to start the missions.

I don't want to sound lazy or stupid on purpose here but I need to know right now: where is the FTP site?

I neeeeeed this.

EDIT: Or is this only open to certain people (modders who helped or signed up)?

The "FTP site" belongs to Tolwyn.
It's where he stores models, and other items, relating to the mod.
He's only given access to those of us actively working on the mod.
IIRC, there's fewer than a dozen, or so, who have access to it.

Update:
I've been feeling out of sorts lately...
Been having problems concentrating...
So I'm taking a break from the mod...
For a few days.

Update:
(Sorta)
Added some choices to the mod:
1) Five (5) AI levels.
2) Regular, or high, mission pay.
3) Choice of starting ship.
Starting ship choices are limited to 21 of the ships in the mod.
The Paradigm, Drone, Crossbow, and Broadsword, aren't selectable.

People have been bugging me about having choices.
I've been debating about making the outfits choosable too.

Those with ftp access can download this version.

BTW-would you consider beta testing Gemini?

Not being one sit around, and do nothing...
But being slightly burned out on testing Gemini...
I decided to tackle some other aspects of the mod...
Ones that I'd been putting off.
Rather than adding the other Wing Commander weapons
I decided to try working on adding choices...
(People have been complaining about the AI and Mission pay for ages.)
It was something I didn't know how to do, and I love a new challenge.
They all work quite well, too!
(Took some doing to get the defaults just right, but I finally did.)

If anyone has ideas for other selectable features, let me know.
I've considered things like:
Uniforms...
Starting Pay...

My wife, who enjoys making clothes, needed a fitting at 6am.
To flippin early!
You've got 2 emails:
1 without, and 1 with the mod attached.
(My FTP program requires that stupid number thingy for an address.)

Two things:
1) Don't release it to the public, yet.
2) Please don't divulge the surprises I've incorporated into the mod.

Also...
Had to remove the music in order to email it.

Main thing:
Except for the missions, everything should work.
Gemini included.
If not, let me know.
You can try the missions, but I don't think that they'll work right.

Oh, and see if you get the Texas Tradelane CTD.
The one south of the Battleship Missouri.
I think that it's related to a ship, probably one of BoH_Havoc's ships.
The newly retextured Galaxy has been repaired, so I doubt that it'll cause any more problems.
But one of the others, the Tarsus and/or Orion, is still giving sporatic errors.

Just played through some systems.. I now have the CTD in the texas system.

Fresh install, i flattened and reinstalled windows a couple days ago.

I also had CTD's in other places.

You might also want to fix some of the systems.. IMO, some places were too "surreal." I have a whole laundry list of suggestions that need to be adjusted.. will email you shortly.

Also, I need wireframe screenshots of those ships I am supposed to texture.. I need the wireframes in order to draw textures that will match.. this is why the galaxy still doesn't look great. I need wireframe screenshots taken from above, from the sides, and from underneath. I am looking to you, BOH_Havoc.. help me out man!

For the record, I have some textures for the gothri. Will upload them this weekend.

Also warzog, super job.. super job getting everything working. Is it possible to make an open SP / MP version without any of the FL storyline in there? A version where all the systems remain as they were.. (New Detroit instead of New York System.. Tingerhoff instead of Hamburg). It's cute the way you did that..

Then we can all pitch in together to get the backgrounds all worked out
