I think it would be interesting to see why there wasn't a French faction in the game. What happened to their sleeper ship? Do you think it was one of the original nine ships?

As far as I understood the original intro as well as the new, there were only five sleeper ships and they all managed to escape Sol. Where do you have the informations about nine sleeper ships from?

BTW: The French and the Italian fleets were destroyed in the beginning of StarLancer - might that be an explanation?

Just because you get to use french fighters, that doesn't mean they played an active role in SL...france very well may have been completely conquered, and same with italy.

Reaper: $200,000,000.
Rockets: $100,000
The look on that pilot's face when you launch a full pod of screamers up his tailpipe: priceless

The "French" did the same in Freelancer, like they did in the war against "Saddam Hussian" now. They bottled it! And ran with there tails between there legs. Hence no Sleeper Ships by them in the game!

There were only four sleeper ships, Liberty, Rheinland, Bretonia and Hispania.
Maybe the French and Italian thought they still stood a chance in Sol or perhaps they just bummed a ride with the other countries.

I don't really run this place but I have an understanding with the people who do.

Mustang, you forgot Kusari.

And @Gary, what do you mean the French ran? If anything, it's Americans, British, Japanese and Germans who ran away in their SLEEPER SHIPS. The French are either conquered, destroyed, or chose to stand their ground in Sol. And stop making political remarks.

@ NukeIt
that's what I meant - in SL the "communists" defeated the French and the Italian fleets, so maybe they never recovered (although I doubt that). But what happened between StarLancer and Freelancer, we don't know, as well as no one knows what happened to the Alliance members in Sol after the five sleeper ships left the system (well, actually one has to think that the Alliance never had a chance in Sol...)

In the old intro, we understand that the nomad entered Sol and wiped out nearly all humans, so the five sleeper ships contained most of the surviving human race. But now we just learned that the Alliance launched the sleeper ships to start all over again in a sector far away, without being harmed by the Coalition. I hope that in the 3rd Lancer title, they will uncover more than just another bit of the complete story...

BTW, what about jump gate technology? It seems that the sleeper ships as well as some of the "Sirius ships" (e.g. the Rheinland fleet) are able to jump between and through systems without using jump gates/holes or trade lanes - does this make sense?

About the different looks: I think it's nice to have different designs for every house, but IMHO it's too classic. They started this in StarLancer, where the ships looked like WW2 aircrafts in space, and now we have art-déco and egyptian design in Liberty, gothic and industrial design for Bretonia, asian design in the Kusari worlds, and modern/industrial buildings and ships in Rheinland space. At least, in SL the ships looked reasonable, but in FL, it seems that they just didn't want to have to think about new and distinct SciFi designs and thus recycled classis styles. It's not the bases and planets I worry about, it's the ships. Freighters generally look as I'd expect it from space-freighters, but most of the fighters don't, with a ridiculous amount of wings and fins and weapons, engines and other addons mounted at most illogical places (which is especially true for the house fighters of Kusari and Bretonia), and except for Liberty Battleships (and maybe those of Bretonia), the capships look silly as well - I just can't imagine how such ships could work and survive in space. And even if I don't mind logical flaws, the aforementioned ships still are too artistic and feature too much unnecessary wings and antennas, and just doesn't look very good to me also because of too fragmented hulls with many fragile segments.

But maybe I just compare the ships in Freelancer too much to those in FreeSpace2...

hey there's a masons temple in my town, its a gold door in a building as wide as the door, its between 2 shops...it goes back into the allyway bout 20 feet, mabye 3 people could fit it in it if it were a real building,...hmmmm, I know they are a fairly secretive society, Il bet it goes to an underground complex 20 storys down were they are secretly controlling the major world powers and harvesting ratmilk for sustenence and its physic enhancing properties.

lookit me, Im an illuminati!

p.s. you are talking about arcitecture for "countries" that dont even exist, what they know about their "countries" is whats in their computers..not like they would make perfect adaptions, but..as for ship design, why do the bretonian ships resemple fish or in the case of the clydesdale, a beetle?, I like my crusader for its power at the point Im at in SP, but when and if I switch to 3rd person view its design makes me want to ram it into the nearest sun.
