yeah, well relativlely speaking you were putting words in my mouth. I don't have to hype the game and I wasn't trying to sell you privateer. If you want to play it, great. If not, that's fine too I really don't care either way. It seems like that was just a misunderstanding of words.

yeah. i understand that. Sorry to sound all gung ho about this, I'm not pissed or demanding an answer at all. I just wanted to know if the developers are cutting their losses and this is the game or if they are planning on improving on it. No details or specifics are necessary. Just a we'll be back kind of thing would be nice

ok, first of all, perhaps you dont remember the fun of trying to get WC2 to work under the OS of choice at the time, win95
when WC1 came out getting the sound to work in it was a minor miracle in itself. This was when Adlib was on its way out & soundblaster on its way in, Origin tried to support both & ended up being problematic on either.
Privateer was fine until they decided to release the "voice pack"... $40 i paid for that thing, & i never DID get a sound out of it.
Im a big fan of space games, & ive been into them since Elite & Space Rogue & all that. I spent years exploring the elite universe they somehow crammed onto 1 5.25 disk. Having said that, I like freelancer, i havent played all the way through it yet, but im enjoying the ride & ive had a great time playing multiplayer.
One thing ive noticed about microsoft games, the first generation is usually a bit sparse on content. MS goes out of their way to make a good, reliable game engine first & then in freelancer2 thats when youll see the content roll in.
Look at Motocross Madness1 compared to 2. One was just you, a bike, and some lumpy ground. 2 was the exact same game basically, but now with trees, cars, houses, trains, ramps, all kinds of fun obstacles. Both great games in their own right, but given the choice i play 2 of course.
Im hoping freelancer goes the way that MSFS did. Releasing content editors so that the community can ADD the things they think are missing to the game. I can download virtually any aircraft ever made & fly it on my flightsim. Already from what ive read about people editing the game files in FL it looks very promising that we will see 3rd party apps for doing just that before long.

Why would you try to get Wing Commander 2 to work on Win 95? The game came out in 1991...4 years before Win 95 came out. Even Wing Commander III was a DOS game, not a Win 95 game. Hell, Origin came out with a special patch for Wing Commander 4 to work in Windows 95 because it originally shipped as a DOS game also. The best way to WC 2 to work on Win 95 is to buy the Kilrathi Saga, which has the updated versions on WC 1-3 for Win 95, 98 etc.

All we realy need is a description of their .cmp fileformat...with all the knowledge out there, I think one could replace an existing ship with a custom made one if only we had the propper exporter/convertor (go, HCL! ). Adding I'm not sure about: it depends on if and what parts of ships is hardcoded.
Anyway, if you can replace a ship, one could also replace bases...macross, starwars and other mods will follow, and hopefully some real original stuff too
