Powerfull slow guns, or weak fast guns?

Really depends on what you're hunting. NPCs seem to fall faster to well placed shots from 8.33 refire weapons, and players seem to be more vulnerable to slow, high damage weapons.

well said Tasiin, i think it is situational as well you cant use teh power guzzlers if the ship you are firing at has a small profiel and is v fast and manuveralble in that situation i would favor a high refire rate weapon however with a slow target i would bust out the heavy hitters

Missiles may be very useful in PVP situations. I've been searching for Paralyser missile launcher but haven't been able to find one anywhere (I know bounty hunters drop missiles of this type in omega systems but no launcher around that I know of yet). Paralyser missiles do almost 8000 shield damage and virtually no hull damage. I thought perhaps I could get one of these babies and when I'm right behind someones tail let one go, Class 10 shields down in 1 missile and a few hits then all I have to worry about is the armor which won't take long to take out since all weapons do their most damage against armor.

Oh well yet to be trialled lol.

playing against other people... I assume shield batteries would come into play though....

Post Tue Mar 11, 2003 10:35 am

Speaking of shield batteries:

a) Why do the AI pilots carry batteries and nano-bots and not use them?
b) Why do the nomad ships carry battaries when they don't even have shields?

The answer to both of these questions is that it's to drop the batteries/nanobots for you to pick up if you need them.

Doesn't anyone care about the speed of the projectiles? I normally take speed into high consideration when selecting my weapons. If something has 500 m/s, I normally won't take it, unless it's very powerful otherwise. But that's just me, I like to hit fast and hard. As far as refire rate, I normally go with 4, because that's most balanced, and most decent weapons usually have a refire rate of 4. Of course, this varies, and I calculate which weapon will do more damage.

I don't believe in sustained fire. It would mean I'm missing more than I'd like. I like all 3 food groups on my ships: particle, tachyon, and pulse. I went back to a bloodhound and have gone thru every system in it. Its got:

Adv Gaurdian lvl 4 shield
Adv thruster
Driller mines (debating whether or not to use cutters)
Wasp Cruise Disruptor
Adv Countermeasures
1 Adv Stunpulse 4.0 refire 189 shield damage / 5 hull (lvl 3 Civilian)
2 Dragoon type 1 tachyon cannons 3.03 126/63 (lvl4 Outcast)
1 Pyros turret (particle gun) 4.00 116/52 (lvl4 Outcast)

It's even effective against VHF drivers . This is not my primary account, but this one and my other light fighter accounts I've been most active on of late because they are the most FUN and challenging. I've got another light with 2 stunpulses that cut right thru an Adv Brigande shield in less than 2 seconds.
Its c00l that its a positron shield and extra vulnerable to laser/photon/pulse weapons, lol.

Hmmm... Is not the SPEED (velocity) of your weapons important?

If the crosshair represents an average of your weapon speeds, then wouldn't pairing 550 and 750 weapons really suck!?!?

I am currently mounting a pair of Flamecurse mk2 (300+ hull damage - 500 velocity) and a pair of Drake B's (200+ hull damage - 550 velocity)

Flying a Banshee... of course...

This was the closest match of firepower and velocity.. though refire is slow(2 and 4), each hit will count for MUCH more...

The problem? - 20% vs graviton shields. I imagine most go with them, as their shield max is much higher than the other types.

I would also like to carry a pair of SunBlast B's and A's. This would be the High Refire, perfect velocity match that is probably best... but I sooo like the Drake fireballs and massive (for a light figter) damage.

usually out of 4guns i have 1 stunpulse or a antishield gun, then the rest heavy hitters with a 4 refire rate, weak guns might let you fire longer but who's gonna hang around and let you pummel them?

usually use missiles only for situation when i'm outnumbered and need to take targets down quickly

Big gunz is all i carry. No mines or missles just big gunz. Seems to do the job on everything. Couple of shots and theres just a burning wreck of twisted metal floting in space

i use on a eagle (FoxHunter)

2 salmanca mk2 (class 9), firerate 4.00, speed 600
2 nomad blasters (class 10), firerate 4.00, speed 600
2 Codenam: SERBERUS (class 10), firerate 2.00, speed 600
1 salmanca mk2 turret (class 9), firerate 4.00, speed 700
1 hornet cruise disruptor
1 ripper mine dropper
1 adv. countermeasure

i don't use missiles in PvP fights, u can outrun and outturn a missile very easiely with almost all types of fighters (freighters i don't know, also with the titan)

i have by FireFox a sabre with now

4 nomad blasters (class 10), firerate 4.00, speed 600
2 Kraken Type 2 (class 9), firerate 4.00, speed 700
1 salmanca mk2 turret (class 9), firerate 4.00, speed 700
1 hornet cruise disruptor
1 ripper mine dropper
1 adv. countermeasure

i had also 1 firestalker missile launcher and 1 cannonball missile launcher, i works great against other IA very heavy fighters...
...but if u know how to outturn and outrun them, missiles r nowhere anymore

think about it, i have countermeasures but i use them almost never... if a missile is shoot toward my flightdirection i fire at the missile... in a few hits there gone

i buyed the missiles to loose money, but after every missile i got more money , i had fired sometimes about 14 firestalker and 10 cannonball missiles, and got 40k more credits after buying new missiles

by PvP i think torpedos r better, but never used them against others, i like my cruise disruptors better , co'z they do a lot of damage in a single shot, but the drawback is there very slow and r bigger then missiles and there for easier target...
... so i think that u can use a torpedo against the 1 who shoot it by shooting the torpedo and not his ship , the sunslayer torpedo topspeed is 60m/s (a fighter 80m/s, a missile 90m/s or 99m/s, without using trusters)... so a torpedo can move with 360m/s if u use it with great speed (i don't gonna say how to do that , but it is possible without a mod to do that ) and a stalker missile 399m/s and a normal missile 390m/s... would u see that comming toward u and just also fire u'r normal weap at them... i would see his face after that ...

but about the weap, u can use ur 4.00 in 2 groups:
group 1: 1 class 9 weap
2 class 10 weap
group 2: 1 class 9 weap
2 class 10 weap

u fire the first 3 with keyboard number 2 (class 9), 3 and 4 (class 10 weapons)
after that u gonna shoot with ur mouse (almost imidiate, so the 1 group is reloading while the 2nd group fire)

then u have a good damage a second and a good firerate with normal firerate of 4.00

the drawback is, u use that way not all 6 weap at the same time, but whatever, u make a good spray of fire

I actually use 8.33 GMG guns whenever possible, but then again I fly a Falcon most of the time.

The only 4.00 I use is the Adv. Debilitator, which is a nice gun for knocking down shields.

All the speeds and ranges on those projectiles are matched, so the aiming doodad is right on.

With those guns and some inventive dodging I can put up a good fight against even a VHF (although I lose more often then not, but it's fun!)

Multiply the refire rate by the damage and it will tell you what does th emost damage. Than find a gun with the refire rate that you are comfortable with.

Post Thu Jun 05, 2003 5:19 am

guns of the same classes do about the same amount of damage.

guns from level 8 to 10 do about the same amount of damages too..

what most important is the speed of the projectile. The faster it is, the easier to hit a target.

that's why GMG and Bounty hunters are hard to deal with..
