Prefer cockpit view or third person?

I still like to use 3rd person even with a big ship!.. you can always rotate the view so the combat is not blocked..

THis game kicks arse

I'm not a console gamer (though I have no problem with anyone who is - from what I've seen consoles have great games too, though I personally have chosen the PC route for myself). If you prefer the cockpit view, that's fine and I respect it - just some of us feel you get a better view for maneuvering from 3rd person. And as far as this being a simulator, that is debateable, but I'd say it really isn't. Actually, it's somewhere in between simulator and arcade shooter, but if I had to pick, my opinion is it's more arcade (whereas Starlancer, for example, is more of a sim).

For straight up sims (Freespace,X-wing series, ect) I'll use cockpit view. But I just feel more comfortable with the 3rd person view in games like Freelancer and Crimson Skies.

Cockpit view 90% of the time. I only switch to 3rd person when I absolutely have to, like in the last couple of fights in the SP campaign. I somethimes use the "Roving" view to see what's off the the sides of my ship (since I don't have Radar to show me whats there).

I must admit, I miss having a Radar display. Particularly when someone decides to glue themselves to by backside and continuously pepper me! If I knew they were lining up behind me, I could circle around and nail them! Instead, I don't know about it until I start getting hit. Oh well.

ThresholdRPG - "I think it is absurd to flame someone for which view they prefer"

He wasnt flaming you, he was joking, you left out the wink knowingly I imagine to get your point across..

I dont like 3rd person myself, my ship tends to block my sight from the enemy but the sounds are way cooler...

Calm down and don't take it personal. It was just a friendly jab at console players. There has been and always will be a friendly competition between console players and pure PC gamers.

Cockpit, unless I'm in a field of volatile gas, in which I switch to third because I need to avoid the gas that explodes on contact with my hull yet does not react to neutron, laser, tachyon, or plasma weapons :p

I like cockpit view but would have enjoyed having the little menus that fill the screen be control panels in the cockpit view.

Post Mon Mar 10, 2003 3:55 am

Well the panels are technically in your head =P That or at least projected onto your eyes via your helmet.

No TwoPints it was aimed at Threshold. I was just having fun. I've been around these forums too long to be a troll.
