voice accents in freelacer

Amen Teabold, I would rather have no accents than bad ones. Voice talent isn't that easy to find for games, well at least that is good anyway. And for all the characters in the game they would have had to find many German, Japanese, British voice actors to do the voices and ones that could speak perfect English while still retaining their accent, not as easy as it sounds. You can't just pull someone off the street to do it, voice acting is a talent and takes alot of work.

Accents are just silly (British accent for Bretonian npcs is understandable, though). If they're going to speak English, there's no reason they can't do it perfectly. What's better than accents is: everybody speaks in their native language, with English subtitles. And have Ian Ziering speak German and Japanese when dealing with respective npcs. This would give that impression that Trent is not just some dumb redneck-for-hire, but actually an educated character and a master freelancer with savviness in customer relation

Interestingly enough in the SP game there are quite a few accents. I found the voice acting to be quite good. Course thats just me.

I agree Becket Velar....some of these guys are just being picky. They should have never expected a perfect Freelancer. I expected a great game..and that is exactly what Freelancer is.

Maybe some people can make a sound-mod for this? It shouldn't be so hard to get a few people that can speak english with a small accent, and a guy (girl? )that will implant them into the game.

I realize that this won't sound as good as when it would be done by profesional voice-actors, but after a while you allready know what they're going to say after you heard the first three words

Fear me, for I am your father luke (right... )!
And yes I made this my self

Because I complain about the accents doesn't mean I like the game any less. But still.

Actually, what's more disturbing has got to be the nutty dialogue. It's always weird to hear the Outcasts calling me a "bandit", and have my allies telling me that their scope is clear when I'm still busy shooting down enemies. The bar conversations are equally as bad if not worse, with friendly exchanges such as:

X "How can I help you, mate?"
T "Hey whatcha got?"
X "I seen you before, haven't I?"
T "Yeah, I'm Trent."
X "How can I help you, Mr..."
T "Mr. Trent."
X "Lets have a look at you."
X "I can kill you right now you won't even know it."

There you have it ladies and gents, once again proving beyond all reasonable doubt that all humanity's going insane in the future.

Voices in the game include well known British, American and Asian Actors providing their native accents.

e.g

George Taki (Sulu - Star Trek)
John Rys Davis (Gimbli - Lord of the Rings)
Xander Berkley (Mason - 24)

Yeah, I was about to say, I'm damn sure I heard several different accents in the game.

I would agree that it would be nice to hear the voices in their native languages, with Trent speaking in the appropriate languages as well, with subtitles where needed. But the bad part is that because the sentences are 'pieced' together on the fly (you can hear the small phrases in the audio folder for each person/faction) they would take up a lot of space since the structure of the sentances is different between the languages. Thus needing more files for the speech and the scripting of the different languages.

But hey, more HDD space isnt that expensive...

Yeah, actually I did notice the authentic accents, except there are only like 1 authentic accent per house, and all the rest are horribly out of place.

:dunno: I have a friend who is 2nd gen Korean and he speaks english better than I do.

True. I think it's fine if everybody speak perfectly, but if they are going to have some sort of accent, don't make them ****ty.

like in Starlancer , the people will speak with an accent ... more or less ... as there are quite a lot of generic voices which are used anywhere .... but you will get the same feeling like in starlancer
