Why does it really matter? Theres no reason to get worked up about the character accents

yes it does matter, it makes it better. you dont go to rienland and here rednecks talking, same with kusari that makes it really dumb, if they didnt want to put voice accents they should of said all the spacecraft crashed and the yanks ruled the sector!

I swear to god people will find the smallest damn things to complain about, why don't you stop worrying about the stupid accents and enjoy the multitude of other things the game has to offer. It's already been determined the voice acting and story are lacking but there is SOOO much more beyond that.

Commando, I deleted your other "oops" duplicate post. You could have done it yourself by just hitting the delete icon within that other post. Just a FYI.

And furthermore, the last time I checked Microsoft was an American based company. They could have made the 48 systems based on the 48 states in the continental United States. Be happy there is even a Rheinland, Bretonia, or Kusari in there at all.

Freelancer certainly would have been a slightly better game with character accents....but it is certainly a very small issue and not worth talking about.

To explain no accents: In the future everybody will be speaking english with no accents. Other languages will die.

Or it's gonna be like in the show "Firefly": English and Chinese survive.

In theory there should only be two "real" accents ... Alliance and Coalition and they should be diluted by 800 years of interaction.

**edit**

Unless the Coalition was totally wiped out in the supernova

Oh man did you have to mention "FireFly". I am still upset that they cancelled the show. Fox know nothing when it comes to a having an awsome show. They also cancelled "Dark Angel" which also made me mad.

Voice accents aren't a big issue IMO, because DA had two options regarding their budget:

1. Put an extreme amount of money on voice talents and accents, and therefore cut back on other features

2. Cut back on the voice talens/accents and use the money you save for further development and refining of others part of the game, like gameplay, story, graphics etc.

Boy am I glad they those option number 2

From all my bad experience with fps where actors tried to fake an accent, I swear I don't wanna hear another German in rtcw saying "i'm a medic".

I agree that voice accents are really all that much a big deal as far as gameplay goes. What _is_ really annoying, however, is that there actually _is_ attempts at accent every now and then, and they're invariably horrible. The fact that these cases happen only once in a while only makes them stand out more. The worst case has got to be Kusari's... Complete bastardized accents...

Well, true that it's an American game, but that doesn't mean gross American stereotype should be applaused. If they're gonna base the houses on the real world, they should at least put a bit of research into it. Instead, Bretonia is misrepresented as consisted of nobilities, sleezy cockney Scotts, snoby academics and Irish terrorist, Rhineland of nazis, napoleonic aristocrats, militant imperialists and metal industry workers, and Kusari of honor-loving loyalists, seclusionists, old-fashioned yakuzas, all of whom love fish and can't quite decide whether they're Japanese or Chinese and name their space stations after red light districts. But, hey, as long as they're Asian, right?

Actually, this is especially pathetic coming from a global corporation like Microsoft. Well, like I said, they want to be imaginative, fine, just don't do a half-assed attempt at being cultural such as it is.

Believe me, if you ever have played the german version of Starlancer, you will thank good, that there arent any accents in FL.
Imagine an english native speaker trying to imitate a german accent. What comes out is an accent that even no german does have. StarLancer was so ridiculous. Therefore I can live without accents in Freelancer.
