Who''s going to enter the Fan Fiction Contest?!

Well? Anyone?

Halcyon : I’ve got one more bit of intelligence to pass along to everyone. We believe Bhurak Starkiller may be in the system.
Angel : Bhurak Starkiller, sir?
Halcyon : He’s Kilrah’s hottest pilot in the Salthi light fighter.

Hehe, titbits.

I would have but ...

Post Sat Mar 01, 2003 6:54 am

I think that requires some sort of writing talent...ahh..

Post Sat Mar 01, 2003 9:40 am

I would have but not being a member of the Master Race it sems my contribution isn't welcome.

Well, I think we'd all love to see anything you could contribute, contest entry or not.

There's actually one thing that bothers me about the contest, which is that MS gets total ownership of your story, so if they reprinted it elsewhere you probably wouldn't get credited. But who knows....

I think I'll enter on behalf of an American friend... Though I'm still bitter that they won't even allow Canadians to submit, it's not like it's -that- much of a hassle compared to say, Europe, right? Same continent. Ah well. It should be worldwide.

Aren't there going to be further short story contests around here?

Even if Europeans could enter, I wouldn't because it requires writing(talent).

What is the reasoning behind restricting a comp to the US? Is it that the international shipping charge of a t-shirt could bankrupt Microsoft?

Last month I won a contest on RPGDot. The prize was shipped all the way here to The 2nd World (Australia, Asia Pacific) immediately. At no cost to me. Unfortunately it was a US version of an xbox game, but I was still excited just to win something. Why is it that contests on smaller sites have no locality restrictions, whilst the large commercial gamesites won't even accept entries from continental neighbours?

And what happens if you live in Hawaii?

I was thinkin' about it, but I'm too lazy to read the rules about it or anything else. What are the parameters for the story? Is it supposed to be like a bounty hunter's journal entry or a narrative about an adventure or what? Like I said, I haven't read the rules or anything. Too lazy. I'll probably force myself to look into it later on tonight, but if anyone has a brief synopsis of the rules and contingencies, please post it here.

Please enter even if you are not from the US... I'll try to convince MS to open it up to outside the US terretories... the legal department just hates things like this when they are outside the US, so it might be a no go... But it for sure not an issue on the postal charges

I love to write, I hate to type, I guess the two cancel each other out.

Well, if Bargib can exert some sort of influence on... -them- over at MS to open it to contestants outside the US, then good work on that. I'll enter for sure. I salute you, Bargib.

Well, not really, but you can imagine it. : P

I am going to enter, I believe. But first I have to write the story.

Post Sun Mar 02, 2003 4:24 am

I wrote a story a couple of weeks ago, before the contest, and before even I got the beta. The background info is a little off but it's decent. Bargib, feel free to host it if you want.

Freelancer Short Story

Too bad the story contest gives you the plot, hehe.
