dynamic traffic not so dynamic?

I targetted a transport near Fort Bush. I hailed it and it said it was hauling Optronics from (don't remember name, I'll call it home sector) to Fort Bush. I scanned it and it had a ton of Optronics in its hold.

It docked at Fort Bush, and then undocked. When I hailed it again, it said it was leaving from Fort Bush back to (home sector) to procure more Optronics. When I scanned it, it STILL had all of the Optronics in its hold.

So this is just a transport bouncing back and forth between Fort Bush and its home sector, carrying this ton of Optronics... But it never has them leave its hold when it gets to the drop-off? Seems a little odd...

Yeah, noticed the same thing. The game doesn't actually have any kind of dynamic economy... Nothing ever gets sold or bought unless you do it.

Another example:

Ship said it was buying Optronics from Fort Bush. I scanned it and it had nothing in its hold. It docked, it undocked. It then said it was hauling Optronics. But when scanned, it had nothing.

Also, a ship was hauling light arms to Baltimore shipyard. After it docked it said it was going back to Pittsburgh to procure light arms. I scanned it, and it still had light arms in its cargo. I blew it up, and it dropped light arms as cargo.

Why have the ships say all those different dynamic things about where it's going and what it's hauling if it's not going to? If I target a ship, hail it, and it says: "I'm hauling Optronics" and when I scan it, it has nothing..... That's not good.

Bug

Oh no! Really? That's a bug?

If it is a bug, that's a BIG MAJOR bug! If it's supposed to work the way I'm thinking it's supposed to work, and it's not....

How did that get by them? That seems like such a major part of the simulation of a dynamic traffic system.

No, its not a major bug. It's not like a bug where FL will reformat your computer whenever you exit the game. This isnt a biggie and i can live with it. And the dynamic market idea was scrapped.

I'm not talking about a dynamic market. I'm talking about the dynamic chatter and the dynamic traffic.

It's there, but it's broken. Yes, that's a major bug.

If a transport says it's running cargo to a station, docks with that station, and then says it's going back to get more cargo from another station, it shouldn't have its original cargo in its hold anymore.

Think about it. If I want to play a pirate, and a transport comes into a system with an empty cargo hold, and says he's gonna pick up light arms at a station. So I wait till he docks, undocks, and then follow him to the middle of nowhere and open fire. Guess what? He won't have the light arms. His hold will still be empty.

Yep, I have to agree with Max - it's a pretty big downer on the whole pirating career. I discovered this when trying the same scenario Max gave in that last post.

I definitely wouldn't call it "major", but it did suck.

FIX: Don't hail, just scan.

Post Sun Feb 23, 2003 12:11 pm

I know what you're saying Mustang, but then you're saying to not use a feature of the game to cover up for a bug that DA should have found long ago. Kind of policing yourself so you don't run into a bug when DA should look into it and fix it.

Post Sun Feb 23, 2003 12:20 pm

Relax gentlemen, im sure that if DA want to correct this they will with a patch. Nearly ALL pc games get patched shortly after release and I belive that in DA's case they may add more content (missions) with future patches.

Btw, you playing the demo or full game? It may have already been resolved in the gold version but not the demo. See my point?

like starlancer was patched, you better pray fl sells well if you want a patch

Post Sun Feb 23, 2003 1:58 pm

Unfortunately, this problem is in the full version also. What a shame.

Post Sun Feb 23, 2003 3:27 pm

Not a major problem. Such a minor bug would not upset me even if I wanted to play a pirate. Just blow the dang ship up and get on with it! If the ship has no cargo when it says it does...just pretend they are lying to you and blow them away! I will look at the "overall" play of Freelancer and then compare the game to Privateer. If it is better than Privateer...I will be happy. To me a major bug is one that will keep you from completing a mission or cause you to lose something you had worked hard to get.

Ever occur to you fellas that this may have been purposely left out of the demo for the sake of filespace?

Check the retail and see if its the same.
