Honest Review of Freelancer

This is a free discussion forum on Freelancer. This is the place to discuss Freelancer issues NOT covered by the other boards!

Actually to chime in here... IM does point out what I percieve as the weaker sides of FL, though I think the reptitivness is what you make it into.

My whishlist for an expansion does definitly include a larger varity of random missions, and I found the SP campaign fun and engrossing, but quite liniar compared to f.x. Privateer II.

But as IM also states: this game is by no means a bad game! That is as far from truth you can get. As Stinger points out: Give the exploration together with other people on a MP server a chance... It's a blast!

Also building up your ship, mapping out the universe, finding that darn Level 10 gun, the hidden systems and more is what made me see the light: This game is very engrossing!

Also expect the demo soon, maybe even as soon as next week!

I appreciate a honest review. But can anyone tell me of a game that isnt repetative. some games like half life draw you in so it doesnt feel repetative,
but you are still playing the same game from start to finish. If FL does as good ajob of HL did ill be very happy.

That's cool about the demo coming out next week, but remember that next week is the week before Freelancer hits stores. If they want the demo to be out first, it kind of has to come out next week. (not complaining mind you, I can't wait to get it)

It's a good point that on some level almost all games are repetitive. Luckily I love the things you get to do over and over in Freelancer. Any more info? Pros and Cons?

I think it is great that the "weaker" aspects of the game are being posted on these forums openly. I also think it is very important and healthy...

Who knows, perhaps the folks at DA look at these posts and use this info to come out with a patch and/or a expansion to fix these areas.

just a thought..

Try buying a humpback and using it for combat. Now, there is a challenge! Be sure to load up on cargo before each mission!

Well I think they will be adding some add ons to the program in the future for the SP side and MP side of the program! So I think in the future FL will be better as time go by!

Exactly Mr. Intimadator

This game will definately have lasting appeal.

Stinger: "There's a lot of tricks to the game you just can't learn alone and sharing those tricks enhances the experience."

So what? You know a bunch of tricks that noone else knows (duh, not everyone is lucky enough to be in the cloistered group of snobby beta testers).
Do you think everyone else is too dumb to figure out what you have, given the same amount of time?

Anyway, feel free to delete me (as you always do to any post that might harm your egos). What i thought was a great community is really a bunch of beta testers that cant wait to tell everyone else how dumb they are because they don't know whats in the game. I'll not be coming back to this forum.

Mithrandir, if anybody has been condescending and snobby here, it's you...

Post Wed Feb 19, 2003 10:31 pm

Although i wouldnt say Stinger is a snob, he does have an ego. In the xp prob thread, he automatically assumed i was using a warez version of XP and that i somehow deserved to have bad things happen to me, just because i recommended against getting sp1 (the piracy patch). In fact i was recommending against it because it causes alot of people alot of probs on thier computers.

What's your problem? Stinger is not exactly my favorite, but there was nothing wrong with what he said.

If you can find out everything by yourself, what's the point of the community? why bother coming at all? I'm not ashamed to ask for help if I'm stuck. Or perhaps just want to swap war stories.

Definitely not everybody, but some are. We don't live in a hive mind where everyone's ability and knowledge is equal. There's a gap between the veterans and the rookies, and Stinger is merely saying that multplaying is a way to bridge the gap.

IF there's any flaw in this community, it's people like you who can actually conjure up an illusion of being victimized and getting offended by everything.

Edit:
@Dragoro: quit hijacking threads. Attacks like this is bad enough, at least please confine each attack on its own thread.

Alright. I did go a bit overboard on that one. Been having a bad week so far, and little sleep, and things came out sounding worse than i had intended. I'll stick around if you guyz haven't already judged me as the spawn of satan.

On a note more on-topid to this thread: I'm a hermit by nature and don't work very well in communities. My fav games are of the massively single player type (to pun on MMO..) such as Baldur's gate and morrowind.

With what i've read about freelancer, especially on the shear size of the universe , on the same scale of morrowind, i was hoping that freelancer would be the next big game to fit in this "massivley single player" group. With respect to the "Honest review", i don't like the sound of the repetiveness. Going to work for the day is doing something repetetive, games are supposed to be one's relief from that.... When the game comes out, i guess i'll find out for myself how much replayability the freeform nature of the game gives. If they wrote the game with multiplayer in mind, i guess i'll just get bored real quick with it.

Hahah, and what about The Sims?

It's ok Mith, i know how it feels to not get enuff sleep. Things can get sloppy.

I am so misunderstood.... Where to begin...oh ya

(duh, not everyone is lucky enough to be in the cloistered group of snobby beta testers).

Have to made any attempt to become a beta tester? Do you know if you're qulaified? Have you looked into the steps to become one? Do you know every single beta tester personally well enough to make a judgement call like that? Wow, you must really get around.

Next!

The facts (6 or 7 months ago when SP1 first hit the market ) do in fact support your theory, but in today environment, it simply is no longer the case. Proven, documented, verified, case closed. The truth is SP1 does look for pirated versions of WinXP and most likely the famous version most people have is the corporate version of Win XP Pro that made it's way around the internet. That is the PRIMARY reason these days people do not have SP1 installed. There is no other logical reason anymore. Simply put, if you have a registered - activated copy of WinXP and you take an active role in keeping it updated you have FAR less problems that those that choose not to practice this. And if you do have a registered - actviated copy of WinXP and you're not keeping it updated, or you have an "acquired" version then shame on you. Complain department is in the rear.

so misunderstood...
