Now, to get this thread out of the "texture wars" and back on subject

I admit being irritated by the "we don't own this base, but we have an understanding with those that do" stuff over and over. It would have been nice to have a "welcome to Battleship (insert name here)" when you're on a battleship, for example.

But actually, the biggest gripe I have is the trading system. It would *really* be helpful to be able to see who produces what, no matter if you're on the ground, or don't have any of that particular commodity in your hold. I haven't been able to do enough cargo moving to check and see if there is actually a dynamic market system implemented, as intimated in the early previews. Dynamic markets, supply and demand, pirates trying to cut off vital supplies to a planet and smugglers trying to break blockades... all these would *tremendously* improve the logevity of the game.

@maniac: Nope, those are what they look like in the game, whether in a base or in space. Trust me, i know.

Those screens i posted were not from me, they were screenshots from DA but they definitely look that good in the game.

Proof. These are screens I made at 1024x768x32bit with max details. All around 350KB.

Torgen, Thanks for getting us back on the topic...

I agree. Everything you said about trading would definately be a plus for the style of play I would like to implement. However, I do not know anyone else who is playing a freighter in the game to find out if this career system works and if they are enjoying it.

Sweet to watch EB Thanks !

Heh he, always nice to see the pilot actually sitting in his little cockpit

I am personnaly releaf that freespace isn't the best looking game around. It just mean that it will be easier to play the game on my good old computer

Ha! I waited for that mistake a long time. I guess you meant "Freelancer " and not "Freespace ", right?

I always like trading in this type of game also. I like combat to like being a pirate but I also do trading with my figher on the side. I think it would definatly lesses the experiance if you could just all of a sudden have info in your Nuaralnet(SP?) about trading commodities on all of the planets, 1/2 of the fun is finding a new base or planet that you don/t know about and then seeing what they have to offer and figuring out if you can make money from it somehow.

I would like to beable to radio in to the commodity dealer though before you land to see if it is even worth landing but at least then you would still have to find the place anyways.

One thing I would like to see is the ability to be able to trade ship weapons, like lasers and missles, buy them low at one place and sell them high somewere else. Maybe you can, I have not left NY so I don't really know yet.

ElectricBrain,

I did not notice those pics before. How do you take ingame pics at those angles? I think hitting printscreen will take a pic but how did you get in that camera angle? Thanks.

Considering the letterbox bars on top and bottom of the screenshos i'd say that they show parts of ingame cinematics.

They weren't taken by him, they were promo pics made by Digital Anvil. As far as I can tell from the beta there is no free camera with the exception of the turret cam. However, you'll never be able to get a picture that good with the turret cam because the interface will still be there, and all the guns will be at funky angles.

I do have some further comments: This is sort of in regard to my complaining about wanting trilinear filtering because of the mip-map lines. It seems the mip-mapping in this game is way, way too aggressive. I think that part of the problem of the game looking like it has really low res textures. It actually does seem to have some nice textures, but you get little more than 10 feet away from an object before its nice high res texture is mip-mapped into a blurry mess. I began to realize as I was playing the game only like 10% of the textures I saw were the actaul textures, the rest was all various degrees of mip-mapping. Anyway I checked my drivers settings for my GeForce card and I realized that my mip-map detail setting was set to "Highest-Performance" which of course produces the worst image quality. I changed it to "Best Image Quality" and now things are much better, but I still notice the mip-mapping is really agressive. I wish I could turn it off all together.

Hmm....I wonder if I add that NoMipMap flag under GeForce3 in the video card database file........

I have not really found anything i havent liked in the game, but i have been playing multiplayer only. I really love this game. They did a great job. First time i sat down, i think i added a gun on the newbie ship, then went out exploring a little. Got into a fight, was cocky and got my ass handed to me, it was like 4 to 1.

Then i started doing missions, not taking as many chances roaming around so i could get some upgrades right away before i go off sight seeing. Man, this game is a blast. I did realize some cool aspects of the game, learning that in order to get some ships you had to be in favor of the some factions to land on their bases. For the majority i was goody 2 shoes, then i started pissing off police in certain sectors so i could land on pirate bases.

Must... play.. now.

@stevedroid:

Did the mipmap thing work?

I have actually found some screenshots where there seems to be a big difference in terms of texture sharpness:

Compare the Kusari Battleship and the Bretonian one - I would really like to have FL running on my systems with the sharpness of the Bretonian Hood.

Actually, i think it may just be a problem with the computer which they took these screenshots from. I have never seen washed up textures like those. They are not evident on the older screenshots they took.
