Sun diving?

One of my most favourite hobbies in Elite was to plunge into the huge white balls they called stars/suns and to see how far i could get or if i could get back. I was wondering if you can do that in Freelancer as well. Can you fly to the star of a system and does it get bigger and bigger and bigger until it fills the whole screen and does being near a star damage your shields due to the radition and heat even if you are not that close yet? If no one should have tried it yet: please do now and tell me.

i believe that radiation does damage your sheilds, and that if you actually hit the sun you will exploded, that is if the heat didn't kill you first.

The shields will not protect you from the star's radiation/heat when you are close to it. It will start eating your hull right through them! You can get pretty close to stars, but I don't recomend it. They can kill you pretty quick

You can kind of do that with planets. You get a warning that your entering the atmosphere and you ship starts to burn up and you see flames and smoke on your ship. I tried it twice, once I pulled back before I got too far, I went and saved the game and tried it again and you eventually burn up and explode. You could try it and see how close you can get to the planet and even fly in the atmosphere.

Ok, thanks.

Maybe there are some secrets hidden close to a star so that you have to risk dying by the sun to reach it? That's just a rethorical question, btw. Please don't answer it, i wanna find out myself.

all this Sun Diving stuff reminds me of Outlaw Star, it that series they hide an awsome ship close to a sun so people won't go near it,

Well, to answer one of his questions, the sun does get bigger. The light gets pretty intense to the point where all you see is white (depending on the colour of the star).

@Bargib

Yup, i will let you know when i do.

@Kivuli

lol. Great stuff. I think that's gonna be my career.

@ElectricBrain

Thanks, so it's gonna be almost like Elite and pretty realistic. I was afraid that the stars were only background objects which you couldn't reach at all.

Good to see confirmation of the fact though I pretty much expected that you could fly to the suns given that DA made a big deal about being able to fly to everything else you see in space.
