It was a joke by Kivuli (a very good one though). There is no such thing like a sunrunner. But reading Kivulis advertisement make me think that it would have been a nice idea.

something slightly related:

i took a job in the Kepler system at the only place to stop in the system. it was a lone research station between 2 large clouds. the system itself lies right between liberty and kusari (sp?). anyway, it was an assination mission that was to take place within one of the big clouds just west of the research station. so, i take the job, arm myself to the teeth, and take off like a banshee straight into the cloud. what they fail to tell you is that the cloud emits radiation that penetrates your shield and slowly eats away at your hull. you'll notice a nice, blinking radiation cursor at the top right of the screen when this happens. thankfully, i was loaded up on nanobots and the target wasnt too deep in the cloud. i smoked him, left his goons behind and hig-tailed it out a there with almost no hull. it was worth it though for the 15k i scored from it.

one thing i did notice was that the target and his goons didnt seem to be taking radiation damage. leads me to think that there is some type of shield or what-not that protects you from radiation.

if anyone has come across such a devise, please let me know as i would love to head back to kepler for the other high-paying bounties and assasinations. later.

Sorry Diablo, should have made it more clear it was just a joke.

Still, doesn't mean you can't do it on your own, though the Nova Run only exists in my fertile imagination.

Maybe a mod one of these years?

lol...nice thread if you ever see me in multiplayer man i will give you some $ for some extra shield batteries (more if i have it )if you wanna take a run at a star while i watch

is there a listed distance for the star as a object in space if so you could take a a screenshot of how close you got before u died or how close u got and made it back out...then you would have a winner of the nova cup , if you cant then im sure it could be added later not much coding involved....

later....

Have'nt any of u crashed into a sun yet? I u buy a v heavy fighter and load up on nanos u can fly stright into a sun and eventually u just bounce off it like an asteroid. If your as hard as nails u can even fly out again using nanos/ batts all the time. Silly but true

In Elite you had sun surfing! You had to fly close enough and long enough to scoop up solar energy for a hyperspace jump through Witch Space. Stay too long and you overheated and went ka-BOOM. Getting near a sun was also a good place to find pirates for a shoot out and some cargo harvesting. Too bad there isn't something like it in FL.

p.s. In my Sinclair Spectrum version, you would sometimes arrive at a space station to find the system's sun was about to nova. You had to load up with refugees -- who rewarded you quite well -- and then launch and hyperspace before the sun did blow. Sometimes it could be tricky getting away in time. I got a PC version of Elite and it had no suns ever going into a nova stage. Only in the Spectrum version, I wonder? The FL systems are all consistently stable, except for the ones where the solar radiation eats you up!
