Small Victory for Freelancer.

This week I was able to convince three people to buy Freelancer when it comes out.
Heh, two of them are Star Trek fans, so it was easy, and another guy like Morrowind. So I told him “Freelancer is just like Morrowind, but in space” and he said he will get it .

I hope game will sell well, expansion always welcome.

Something tells me this game will sell well. The only thing that would be bad is if it was a great game but it didnt exactly live up to all the hype.

Post Thu Feb 13, 2003 5:08 pm

<cough> Doesn't live up to the hype like Morrowind?

MW still sold well tho. And still continues to do so. Thought I read that somewehere recently. See if I can find it.

I know - it was just a huge disappointment ( to me at least ) after waiting for it for many months in breathless anticipation. I really hope FL doesn't turn out like that.

I believe Freelancer will rock. If that were not the case then everyone who has played or reviewed it has been duped into thinking it's cool and I don't think that's possible.

Let's get those missiles ready to destroy the universe!!

Ugnaught has a very valid point. Almost every previewer has liked this game so far.

Not to be negative or anything, but so did all the previewers who got Morrowind. Morrowind is a fine game I guess, but it doesn't really last that long - lifeless NPCs, repetitive conversation, and largely uninteresting combat crippled it I think. Freelancer has multiplayer on it's side though, which is something that Morrowind lacked. All in all, I'd be surprised if FL turned out like Morrowind.

And one things for sure, it looks like freelancers combat will be very good.

Didn't play Morrowind much. Did Morrowind reviewers get the chance to play it, to base their reviews on?

Post Thu Feb 13, 2003 6:42 pm

Morrowind wasn't reviewed until it was released, so reviewers got the full copy. I played Morrowind and happened to like it a whole lot, despite it's obvious flaws. (Lifeless NPC's, etc.) I loved the open ended gameplay. It took me forever to even get to the main storyline, since I was having so much fun doing other things. The game is a real system hog though. The expansion, "Tribunal" is pretty cool as well.

Anyway, Morrowind is very unlike Freelancer in that Freelancer requires you to do certain things before you can venture to other systems. Morrowind, if you knew where you were going, you could head to the end of the game at level one. I think they are similar due to their open-ended gameplay, but it's hard to compare an RPG like this to a Space-flight genre game like Freelancer. Freelancer will rock the house, no doubt, and I'm sure I'll love it as much as I loved Morrowind.

Forget Morrowind... play Arx Fatalis instead.

I like Morrowind, a most entertaining RPG. However I think it won't be that much akin to Freelancer. They might share a few features with teh whole open ended style of gameplay but that['s about it. Morrowind is more like Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic...another game I am highly anticipating!

BTW Sarpedon, did you post on the ES forums for Morrowind? Your name is familiar for some reason, I lurked there a lot - never posted though I think.

I think if you don't use plug-ins for Morrowind, you miss whole a lot of fun. Community came up with some great things, even now some of the guys work on the guars, whom you can ride. How cool is that?
