I.....I am converted

GREETINGS!
(and I'm not talking about the joystick; I don't care...I don't have one)

I wanted to make my debut in this community right now.
I JUST heard about the game after the contest results were announced(grr...), it feels like I've been waiting a lifetime. I can't imagine how happy YOU people must be....

I hope to see all of you in multi. However, I am but a poor 56ker....
But that's not all! The universe delivers the coup de grace by making me use...........AOL!!!!!! *gasp!* (Yes! five, count 'em, FIVE exclamation marks! This is serious)

---QUESTION---
I'm a bit worried about how combat will be with the mouse movement, though. I was hoping someone with that sneak preview could enlighten me.
I'm easily satisfied, though; the combat must be AT LEAST on par with Tie Fighter(only space sim I've ever played).

I do what I must, when I must...

Welcome to the forums

Well, if what's being said in this thread is true ( and I hope it is ), you can find out the answers to those questions yourself soon!

(edited after reading Tach's post)

If you want to switch to a new ISP you should go to DSL Reports and enter your zip code, it will display all the available providers in your area (broadband only though, I'm not sure if there are any 56K ISP locators out there, you really do want to get off that 56K if you're going to be gaming online though).

Welcome! Can't exactly tell you how your experience with 56k with be. I think you might try switching to another ISP though, like Earthlink or something (I liked them back when I had 56k) it might be better. As for combat, it's hard to say how it is in relation to Tie Fighter because I havn't played it (in a really long time) but I can say that the combat is very intense. You'll have to keep track of a lot of fighters, dodge shots, and do a lot of other things. Someone else can probably tell you a bit better than I.

By the way, check out your local Gamestop store to see if they will give you a beta copy if you preorder.

Look into RoadRunner cable if it is in your area.... it just kicks major butt for gaming. AOL will make you hate even the best game.

I never got a welcome when I started posting!!!! my self esteem just went to nil, J/K, welcome to the forums, I would be excited for when freelancer comes out but it won't run on my system and i'm to cheap to spend cash on an upgrade.

Mouse? What mouse? There's no such thing as fine motor control in MY deathmatch!

Wow! You're fast.
About AOL, we're kinda poor, and my dad works at the Royal Bank (BTW, we're Canadian *ducks under a desk*). That means it's free.

It also angers me.

Alright, I'm satisfied. I'll be scoutiong the stores come March 4.

---OT ALERT!---
Anyone played Battlezone 1 or 2? They're great games.

Welcome to the club Canuck, I didn't get a welcome either

(edit) I guess we're fast because we have nothing else to do until FL comes out. Well, some of us, lucky PR beta owners...<grumbles>

don't worry about not getting 'welcomed'. My first post was about joysticks. I made it before reading anything else on the forum. You get one guess as to what happened.... Muslims on a Holy Jihad would have been more tolerant LMAO!

One more question, I know it'll run fine, but........
I'm a little worried about my card, it's a GeForce 4 MX420 (I will horribly kill anyone who thought of the MX series).

I know I MUST replace this soon, but should it be okay for a while with the game?

People can be a little sensitive about that around here Ali

Off topic here, but, I see you have Comcast as well - are you having any connectivity problems? I've had a few outages here in VA and absolutely terrible speeds recently...

TheOneWraith - from what I hear it should run FL just fine. You won't be able to run it in 2048x1536 but you should be able to have all the graphical goodies on

If you're thinking about getting a new card you should take a look at the Radeon 9500 or 9700, I personally have never owned a Radeon but the reviews for those two have been fantastic, and nVidia's new GeForce FX seems to be pretty lackluster.

I play FL with a TNT2 Ultra at max details at 1024x768. Yah, urs is fine.

Post Thu Feb 13, 2003 7:47 am

Welcome to TLR!

Well I havent played FL with a mouse..but I did play WC2 with a mouse..and that worked just fine!

Yeah, off and on. I forgot the name of the backbone carrier that went bust last year , but comcast used it like a hooked junkie. They've had extreme difficulty in getting their own system set up since the old @home network died as a result. They are (supposedly) about 5 months out from a complete and stable switch over. If it weren't for all the freebies they've given me for being patient ( all Sho/Hbo channels for 1 penny a month for life, lol) I'd be on RoadRunner too. A friend of mine in a small town is on it and gets 4meg/sec down and almost 2meg/sec up. Its just evil. He hosts 24 player Mechwarrior Mercenaries games lag free. So, i get good cable movies and let him do the game hosting, hehe. Comcast is good enuff for a client, but don't dream of hosting for awhile.

Post Thu Feb 13, 2003 7:56 am

I know, the games I've hosted recently have been really laggy. People have literally gotten pings of 2000+ in only 3 or so player Rune games that I've hosted ( or any other game using the Unreal engine for that matter ). I've been constantly forced to run downstairs and unplug my modem and switch to reset them to get the pings to go back to normal, and that only solves it for a day or so at best, a few hours at worst.

I think it got worse after that SQL worm was unleashed on the net, both AT&T and Comcast were hit hard by it.

Lol about the free stuff, though if I had a choice I would have moved to a different ISP by now.

Gotta hand it to you Ali, that was pretty funny LOL. Sorry that we come across so agressively, It's just that joystick threads have been like a never ending chore for the past 2 years +. They tend to fray the nerves especially when there's at least one a week coming which is almost an exact clone of the last one.

Also for not welcoming you Ali and Taslin, there are so many new members that it's hard to keep track of who has been welcomed and who hasn't. So welcome to the TLR forums!! Albeit belated.

Welcome also to the TheOneWraith, I feel your pain im in 56k hell myself. Although not quite as bad as AOHell, but rest assured the single player game promises to be a hoot! Even if you are concerned about the combat there is plenty more to do and the FL universe looks extremely sexy.
