Per the different mission types... Just buying a commodity (contraband or not) at one place and selling it at another should generate a "random" mission in itself during the deliverance.

Wow, three pages of questions I was going to ask. Thanks for the inside scoop testers.

One question I didn't see, is there ambient noise in space? Or on bases? Each area having individual music is cool, but I find it's the little ambient effects that really draw me into a gameworld.

You want ambiance? You got it. In serveral different forms too. Fighting music (I think of it as the drum beat from hell), bases have their own musical backdrop, bars of course have upbeat music in them, there's specific sounds for traveling in trade lanes and jump gates/holes. The music is big part of the feel to the game, I have to give that one 2 thumbs up

Also, it's great to see that DA have listened to the fans requests (ie cockpits). Enabling a feature as an option so deep into produciton shows how much they care.

cloaking devices are not available to the player

as for ambient sounds in space, im not quite sure what kind of ambient sounds you're thinking of. for the largest part, there is music running in the background - nice music and not too intrusive - and the occasional string of radio chatter. of course if you're in the border worlds you shouldnt expect too much, but in busy areas like the space above planet manhatten there is plenty of comms chatter going back and forth

This is fantastic. Everyone here asking questions and questions being answered by those who played the beta and PR demo. It's really good to see. I'm soooooo
glad that the cockpits where put back in, it's really going to add to the atmosphere. From what I hear the music is really going to add to the game as well. I'm still waiting for my Sneak Preview Demo, it snowed here last night and no mail made it today. That's O.K. though. FL is Gold and we all are happy about that. Thanks DA, have a great vacation.

Heh, Stinger, those bold italic responses you weave into people's posts are kinda spooky, like it's this disembodied voice proclaiming the Holy Scripture of Freelancer.

*Braces himself for spooky reply*

It makes it easy to scan this thread for responses...not intentional to be spooky..but if the shoe fits...

Mwahahaha

Im glad to see that finally ya answer questions which are on our hearts. NDA lifted, Jippi.

I got some questions for you:

1. Is it possible to interact with other MP players on a base, if ya both are on the same base after taking a coop mission or patrol? Can u see other players walk around, and can u see their ship parked?

interacting with others is limited to text chatting while landed. Now I have seen many many times other pilots in the actual cutscenes that you see when you land. Tach is famous for that. This amazes me how it works, but it brings to light the core of the Freelancer universe. Things do go on without your direct involvement. You might be landing on a base, see a bunch of ships in the cutscene that were circling around as you approached the base. Sometimes, other live pilots can go into a landing bay with you and be in there until you either come out or someone else lands in that bay. Funny thing is you can still target them I saw Boscoe stuck on one of those landing bays and we all came to try to get him out. One of the funniest things I ever saw...he just wasn't fast enough on the thrusters and it took 4 or 5 tried to get him out. We proceeded to shoot him for being such an idiot once he exited.

2. Is there any black holes and what do they do when ya come close to them?

There are indications black holes are in FL, but in all my travels, I only saw one thing that even remotely resembled one and it turn out just to be a sort of whirlpool systems. It was in Nomads land. So this may eb something that needs to be still discovered once it come to retail.

3. Is there plenty of secret stuff to find, like upgrades and piratebases?

There are some secrets stil lto be discovered. I'll never devulge everything, not my style. I might take you on one of my famous Borderworld tours from time to time (which is a hot ticket). I still believe Da added a few things in the final build (which no one has seen but them). I have high hopes for the Nomad systems to have a lot more content and that means new stuff to be found.

I Rule!!!!!

Here's one for you...bout ships, what else?

How long did it take you befor you had a "good" ship. I don't mean any of the ubber fighters some of the factions have, but a decent light/heavy fighter?

Mad Dog wrote real nice piece titled "A Titan in 10 hours" I think. The Titan is the best ship out there. A sabre is probably 2nd best (but it looks the coolest IMHO simply because it has a sort of bi-wing). A decent light/heavy fighter? I'd say it might take an hour or so to get a Liberty fighter. That's not the best, but it's no pee shooter either. To get something like a Hammerhead it might take a solid 3 - 4 hours to build up to. A lot depends on your flying technique and the style of pilot you really are. I believe a good mixture of cargo runs and taking missions is the safest way to go. Misions can be pretty lucrative at times. Cargo missions are basically load up the ship run like hell and land at your destination. On the way you're guarenteed to run into some faction wnating your wealth.

Bargib says: Even while Mad Dog says he isn't very quick, it for instance takes me much longer to get the Titan. You need around $750K, and that's a lot of money!

Thanks

I've seen things you people wouldn't believe. Attack ships on fire off the shoulder of Orion. I watched C-beams glitter in the darkness at Tan Hauser Gate. All those moments will be lost in time like tears in rain. Time to die.

sorry sting-baby i mis-phrased my question b4.
Q: Where are the save files? On the server or the client?

If they are on the server then it's more like diablo2 realm characters... as opposed to diablo2 open-battlenet characters. I suspect they are on the server (by what u said). If they are on the server and the server system crashes (full shut down) then are the save files still there and ready to go??? I don't see how you can't transfer these save files...

Bargib says: MP ones are on the Server, and the times I lost the connection, I got to restart either at the last base or the last jumphole/jumpgate. Means you don't loose very much in terms of gametime lost. SP games are saved locally and are encrypted.

Thanks Stinger et al

Q : Are we able to import single player character to multiplayer?

Bargib says: Even getting the server admin to upload a SP character to the MP Server Directories have given inconsistensies, and might crash teh server and/or the client. So a no go! I can't see how you could cheat on a trusted server, like the TLR will be, I hope... !

I was wondering cause in Dungeon Siege (Also from Microsoft ) you were able to do this but alot of cheaters abused this :/, especially in PVP.
