Once apon a time...
...we had a very old Mac(MAC's ROCK! ;-D) and it had a hard drive of 800MB!! :-O
and there was this game on it... axactly the same as freelancer ...exept it was 2D! (and there where litraly HUNDREDS of systems! and you could hire escorts... imagine you in your already invincible heavy fighter and then haveing 30 more the same as you following you around everywhere!!! as wel as a couple of ginormous cargo ships used so you can trade in "big style" then once apon an other time that game grew old... and then once apon anoter time again i wished i had that kind of game in 3D... then once apon an other time a freind of mine brought this "freeelancer" game along... i thought it would be one of those lame borin piece of junk games... turns out i was wrong... i love the way its so easy to fly around, all the freedom the game has, the interesting story line and the simplicity of blowing Libery Rouges to bits in just secinds puts a smile on my face... :-)
...and now that i've found this fan site and all those awsome MODs (which i will not use until i get me one of those Sabres ;-D ) i will certainly be hooked for ever and eternity!!

The fact that EVE is online only. I prefer to solo it.

The fact that EVE has a monthly fee precludes any chance of me ever considering even thinking about considering buying it. I'm not paying monthly for a potentially mediocre game after I've paid for it once.

The fact that you don't actually aim mitigates the actual skill present in battle. Just click and watch, and wait for the guy with better equipment to win easily.

Oh, and most clans and corporations are player-unfriendly. And mining takes years.

I was addicted to FL by the fact that it was an open-ended Space Sim, which I lacked at the time. Plus, X required too much time to memorize Hotkeys and basic commands to the point that I shelved it for later.

Well what to say a gr8 game with graphics that can run ok on a machine running without a 3d card.I also liked rollcage for the same reason. If u ppl r thinking what is Rollcage then it is a racing game with weapons.Just look at the graphics.I love the freelancer's depressing music and the idea of killing ppl in cold blood.I am the only dumb one who went and tried to attack the Junker Base - Rochester with a Rhino ship.I did take out all the turrets but as it was only the demo I could not destroy the base as I did not have a ship which has torpedos.btw I espaced alive after the attack. Now I have the full game but I will do it after I complete single player.

Back in the day i was a HUGE fan of Starlancer. I must have clocked in excess of 200 hours playing SP... I heard about Freelancer being a sequel to Starlancer 4 years before it came out. And when it did, I bought it as soon as i could scrape up the cash.

Never argue with an idiot, because they will bring you down to their level and win through experience

what got me hooked on Freelancer was alot of things but it was Open SP and the Evolutions mod. These two together made me want to play over and over to this day.

OT: I played EVE for three months and while I found it a wonderful game I could not justify the cost when Evolutions offered much the same content as EVE did. I do hope one day that same modder could emulate the UI of EVE for Freelancer, it is one of the best I have ever seen in a game. And I have played well over 2000 video games ( rangeing from Comadore 64d- playstation2). Also the "hands-off flying" was a disapointment after playing Freelancer. But other then that it is defintly one of the better MMO's out there.

Blessed Be to all those that still dream of the flight to the stars.

How about the RE-playability of the game? Even in the vanilla version you'll find new stuff almost every time- from derelict ships in Texas ( didnt know about them til recently) to things that you might think don't exist at all (like the remains of Freeport 7- I found it on one of the first passes, two to three years ago) to the unexplainable( Why is there a second jumphole to Tohuku, if you cant get there after the missions? Why is there a class 10 freighter shield available when there's not a ship to put 'em in?? etc.)

And then there's the Mods.. how many of us suffer from dial up connection and will wait til weird hours of the night to download a new mod from the board? The ships alone- well, name it, and if it's a ship that flies in Sci Fi in the last twenty years, it's here. Most of 'em, anyway- even something to park a class 10 freighter shield in! Then there're the systems ( Hm, that looks cool- 13 hours to down load? OK, know what I'm doing this Friday... And Saturday, and as much of Sunday as I can- gotta try it out, after all)

Priceless, of course, are the dumbfounded looks of the Uninitiated, as we begin to tell them about This Game ....

What really drew me in was the mouse controls. And the fact that it would run on my 1.7 GHz piece of crap comp. I was supprised at how easy it was to pick up and play. My neighbor (who I was really good friends with at the time before I moved) came over, and after five minutes he was used to the mouse control and was flying like he'd been playing for years. I eventually bought a joystick for the game and at the time was supprised to find that it didn't work. (That was before I knew the M/K was the only control option.)
