what hooked you?

Hey folks...
A question that occurred to me several times while reading the forums is this: What was it about FL that hooked you? For me, the idea of different ships to pilot and a universe to explore after the game itself is what did it.

It was good.

two words - wing-commander/MULTIPLAYER - although this isn't wing commander, its pretty close in many ways - basically i gave up hope of Origin ever making another MP space game after prophecy came out(w/o the anticipated MP),when i saw this game lying unplayed in a friends desk drawer w/ Chris Robert's name on it and read it was MP i was hooked right there

What hooked me to the game was the fact that you can explore through a heaps of systems, each being unique and a large range of ships and equipment avalible for purchase

I got hooked cause it was a great game, with decent graphics, good sotry, and the "free" feeling.

The demo made me addicted to Freelancer, and when I got the full version, I played for it every day for a half year.

It always reminds me of the old days of playing Elite on my CBM 64.. only vastly, vastly better.

I'm with you, Adjuk. I can't remember how much time I spent playing Elite back around 20 years ago. And Freelancer is obviously Elite brought into the modern computer age. I made a post long ago pointing out the similarities between the games. I love the freedom to do whatever I want and go wherever I want, not simply follow a set story line. That all began with Elite. Only now instead of having to use our imagination, Freelancer uses actual photos of space and graphics we would have died for in 1985!

If only there were more games made like this. They have been few and far between.

Weeelll....it was the demo that got me hooked too. Me and a a mate played it and said we would each get it...sometime. I ended up getting it like a year later, and my mate still hasn't got it! Now I am utterly hooked forever....

But it was just amazing. Explorable, exciting storyline, FREEDOM, good graphics, and a cocky guy named Trent. And HUGE. I had never played a game like it before really.

Freedom... Resemblance to this ancient game called Elite that I loved for so long but could never get the hang of.... I just thought the idea of choosing your path was a good one.

I wasnt hooked till I brought it home from Wal-Mart.When I looked at Freelancer I thought that it would be one of those mediocre games that you play when bored. But I loved it and its in my top ten favorite games. Its #2,only seconded by Battlefront 2,but may be replaced by Warcraft III.

Elite!

I missed out on Elite as I was but a lad when it came out, but I did play a lot of Privateer. When I saw Freelancer I knew I would love it.

btw, everything that freelancer has is done in a much much better way in Eve Online. kinda makes one wonder why people that want a good MP experience play such a half-assed game as freelancer.
