Demand freelancer 2!!!

Hello all, I am here today after hearing the rumors of FL2, most think they are fake. So do I. However all fans of freelancer should not just give into false hope, "Demand" it make it a reality . Nothing will happen unless MicroSoft knows they can make a profit. Sure there have been signature pages I have myself signed most, But who see's these signatures? who out there hears are cry?

I hail from lansdale galactica, and have been trying to start the movement of people demanding FL2 or at least knowing what wieght the rumors hold. I erge all to goto the following link below and to demand a new saga into the world of Freelancer.

Demanding, is never the way to get something. Buying their product, so they will want to make an addition/new version, is. As you noted, there are a lot of threads on this subject, including a letter writing thread as well. if Microsoft choose to create a FL2, great, but if they don't well, we have mods for now.

Welcome to TLR.

I suppose we could all fly over to Microsoft in VHFs and enforce our demands.

Im pretty sure microsoft is working on FL2 anyway, all we need is some patience.

If we all bought a anohter copy of freelancer, the sales would increase alot.

It's cheap enough now. We could each buy 4 or more for what we paid the first time!

I think the point I am trying to make was lost. Thats my fault. When I say demand FL2 I don't mean to threaten Microsoft nor ask them to give it out for free. What I am saying is let them know that there is a large fan base thriving and that a new version of the franchise will make a profit and is worth making.

They know we exist. we're an official affliate site or something like that.

One thing I found out when I went to Austin and visited DA in 2002 was how much they read this site. I also know they NEVER post anything, so don't go looking for clues. DA is alive and well, and I'm sure they have many projects in the works. I hope some sort of sequel to Freelancer is one of them, we just don't know. They're notoriously tight lipped about these things.

And Finalday is absolutely right. Demanding and petitioning won't do anything. Freelancer sold well, and hopefully that'll give MS Gaming Studios enough impetus to work on an expansion and/or a sequel. Remember too that the gaming portion of Microsoft is such a tiny part of their entire company. Windows, Server, and Office are they're primary products. The games they release are more to keep the brand name in the spotlight than add to their revenue.

Add to this their desire to promote and expand XBOX and XBOX2 and we'll start to see less and less PC games. Sad, but true. I can only hope that if there is another Freelancer, it isn't for XBOX only. Hopefully, if it is an XBOX game, they'll be kind enough to port it to us PC players.

So, I stay optimistic, but realistic too.

Boscoe,

Do you happen to have any idea (roughly) on what Freelancer sales were? I've been studying this recently and was wondering where FL compared at. If you don't know, is there any way you could find out from DA?

Merc for hire...but only if you can afford it.

MS, I don't have the figure offhand, but I'll see if I can get it from either DA or MS. However, one thing I do know is that sales were higher than expected.

mabey someone should get a job with DA?

"If im phased and can walk through stuff, then why am I not falling through the floor?"

Well from the numbers I've seen it's been many years since a space sim cracked 250k...if Freelancer did that then it could revive the whole genre. (I mean 250k as units sold, not Ca$h).

It was over 250k units, that I do remember. It also won "game of the year" or was on that type of list in almost all gaming magazines and websites for 2002. The game was incredibly well received. Again, I've asked for the number, and if I get it, I'll share it with you. I think, repeat, I THINK, it was close to a million copies sold.

Theres a 100,000 members of TLR. If sales went up 100k in a month, dont you think they'd concentrate on FL2?

Or we could just wait for Indi to buy the rights to the game...
