Yeah, TN was such a totally immersive game (all Looking Glass games were, the System Shocks, Thief, etc. ), and Freelancer reminds me of it in this way - the sense of really being out in there in space, not on this world but on another, alien soil.
My favourite thing about games is those times when you realise that, just for a moment, you were totally in this other place, your brain was fooled (or your disbelief had been suspended, as the saying goes). I like the "gamey" side of things too (the shooting, the adrenalin rush, and the upgrading and winning side of things, when you get little jolts of satisfaction from succeeding in small, measurable steps), but immersion's the main reason why I'm still into games at my age.
