Newbie Tips

Hi all,

After a search this week for a current game that could satisfy my thirst for conquest in the same way 'elite' did - Freelancer was mentioned over on the EvE Online forum. I have downloaded the demo and played it to death, so now i've got the full version waiting to be installed tonight. I am really impressed with the game. I like the thought of it being open ended !

Anyway - i was just wondering if some of you could give me some tips on how to get the most out of my freelancer experience !?

Catch ya later !

EDIT: No emoticons in the topics please

You mean that you are playing Freelancer, alright?

Good, then i would like to give you some tips:

*Begin with small mods, and then work yourself up, to big mods like TNG, The Next Generation. The Next Generations Homepage
*First, finish the SP campaign, then go on MP.
*Be nice to other people on MP, else you get banned.
*Do not use a mod on a server that doesn't support mods, because THAT'S CHEATING!!!
*Have fun

And welcome to the Lancersreactor!

Try the Game play Patch mod. It's great for people new to the game. A few tips for MP:

1. Don't expect to be fighting players in a kick-ass ship right away. It takes time.

2. Start trading. Trading pays off much better than missions. Do missions in your starflier until you have enough credits to get a freighter.

3. Join groups. That way you don't have to do missions alone, and you'll have someone to talk to on long trade runs.

4. Most importantly, HAVE FUN!

Happy freelancing!

Ohhh! Beu-tiful! Preeety! How do I blow it up?

Once you've been through the story line, explored the universe afterwards, tried all the ships up to the most powerful ... then go back and try the story line again in DIFFERENT types of ships. Try to do it in a low level ship with low level guns -- can be a challenge! Maybe even play it through in a freighter. There is a lot to be got out of the game without evening using the mods. Just my opinion, but I'd save the mods for later.

I love the Bretonia Crusader, a heavy fighter, available on any battleship, throw a few Skyrails on there and your all set, this is the ship I usually use, I love it..

I'd use that too if it weren't for its low armor.

IMHO the crusader looks too fat for my taste. eagles all teh way !! <no, not a best ship thread.

as for newbie tips, you should figure out all the controls and set it to your preference. i'd advice not sticking 'cruise mode' as shift+z or whatever it was. change it to one key. it'll save you heckuva frustration later (coughracecough)

then, when you're exploring, it'd be wise to open nav map, go to 'patrols' its the one with the loopy arrows. then see where many of the routes converge. at that point, there is a suprise for you. a base? a jumphole? empty space? no one knows but you usually won't be disappointed.

trading is good at the start as it brings more revenue than guns do. but later on in the game, the cargo hold doesn't really mean much when you can carry an unlimited amount of firearms in god knows where but brings so much more cash.

last but not least, find out which faction you hate most, then when you finish the campaign, kick their sorry butts

I've played it a fair amount this weekend and i've just been chased out of the liberty system to bretonia. Just changed my liberty forces heavry fighter to a piranna and now i'm whooping the molly's and the gaians asses....

I didnt think that i would like following the storyline as i like to do my own thing - but the story is quite addictive !

i hate all the bretonian ships cause they are all fat and ugly
