Question about jump holes:

I saw a list of all these jump holes that can be found in each system.... fer instance, I'm level 5 right now, and am stuck within the Liberty system, so I'm doing a trade run from Houston to L.A.... I see that there's a jump hole linking the two (or two one-way jump holes, I'm not really clear on that), but when I went to either set of co-ordinates, I found nothing. Likewise for when I tried to find some of the listed wrecks... is there some sort of level or storyline prerequisite you need before you can see this stuff?

Sometimes you can't see wrecks or jump holes until you are very close to them. Look at your nav map and click zoom. They may show up that way. And when the list says a wreck may be in say sector 4C, that can cover a lot of territory. You just have to raom around and look for it.

That's what I've been doing... I start by setting a waypoint in the center of the sector... then, when I don't find what I'm looking for there, I start setting waypoints around in a spiral (outer edge of the sector, bact to the center).... haven't found anything.

Are you guys SURE there's supposed to be a jump hole to Texas in sector F5 in California?

Yes, there is such a jump hole. Find the "star" in the system's center. Follow the sector line heading to the "east". The second time it reaches an intersecting sector line, turn south. The jump hole should be almost right there.

So, it's right on the edge of the sector line?
Thanks! I'll give that a try the next time I play.... how about the jump hole in the other direction? I haven't found that one, either...

Oh, another question: I have a trade route I use sometimes between Leeds and Cambridge... I know there's a jump hole going in one way, but do they ever work both ways?

Post Tue Aug 05, 2003 7:50 am

Jump holes always work both ways, except about 3, which are for story based missions only. I think that the Cambridge > Leeds jump hole is the best.
Tip: When using the nav map the grid doesn't work right. Zoom in and then zoom out and it adjusts the grid correctly.
If your hunting for something in a sector I'd recommend plotting a course that looks like the letter Z over it. I use that method and have found every wreck I've been looking for.

I tend to use an X search pattern...i found that using a Z shaped pattern sometimes misses a few things...

OK, thanks for all the help, guys!

One other thing... I bought info that led me to the wreck of Patrol 27 or something like that.... when I got there, there was a damaged fighter and tons of radiation. On top of taking radiation damage, I was also being attacked by rogues, so I got the hell out of there, but not before I hit the "B" key to pick up anything there was to be had.

If there was anything to get IN the ship, how would I gop about getting it? Or does it work more like any loot to be had from wreck just floats nearby?

In order to get anything from a wreck, shoot it with a weapon. You only need to shoot it once, otherwise you might destroy the loot.

I just found two of the wrecks in the New York system.... now I know what to look for, thanks to you guys...

On the same subject, does it work the same way when searching for a jump hole? I've been searching for wrecks by putting my scanner on "include all" and flying around in a search pattern. Same deal for the holes? What shows up on the scanner?

Very often those wrecks will be in some rather unfriendly places ... radiation fields or mine fields, plus lots of hostiles around them. Best thing to do is go in fast, hit them once with your guns, tractor in the loot and get out as qucikly as you can. Those radiation fields can really eat up a lot of nanobots, while the mines can blow you to pieces if you're not very careful!

In the two I found so far, it SEEMED to me that as I kept hitting the ship, more stuff came out, until the ship's armor was toast. Of course, I could have simply misinterpreted it, and it all came out in the first shot... I'll be sure to check that out next time I find one.

Oh, yet another question.... what are all these "CODENAME:" items I see as part of the cargo of these wrecks? I assume they're some sort of fancy weaponry....

Post Wed Aug 06, 2003 3:44 pm

They're the level 10 weapons in the game. It always says nothing much is know except the codename. they use tons of energy, do tons of damage, and can only be mounted on the 3 VHFs.
