I believe I read a rumor in some bar somewhere in Liberty that the jump holes were a result of the use of jump gates. The jump gates caused the jump holes to form. I read that somewhere...

Thank you,

maybe they are a result of each other neither can exist with out the other

Why is everything out of scale too......cause i honestly have a hard time seeing my starflier being able be as big as serveral windows on a battleship. I also find it ahrd to believe that some stations have a huge population but are very very small.

and why do you have to dock in the docking rings? you dont burn up there yet you burn up everywhere else.

The docking rings are just a way to control traffic to and from a planet.
I mean othewise you'd have ships wizing all over the place getting in crashes.
It also helps prevent smuggleing.

Post Wed Jul 30, 2003 11:00 pm

well the ships coming from teh planet dont need to? seeings as they are already cleared....and besides what stops a smuggler from landing on the far side?

Post Wed Jul 30, 2003 11:37 pm

In reallity nothing would stop you from landing on the other side of the planet, but in the game you can't , so I guess they have some sort of giant forcefield or
a star wars missle shield. I think I have seen ships leaving the planet through the left side of the docking ring too. So it's just like a freeway comming on one side going on the other.

The jump holes aren't reccomended by Ageria because they are supposedly unstable, but it's really because Ageria has a nice monopoly on jumpgates. Read the manual.

Everything's out of scale because otherwise you'd take years to travel between planets.

Cargo is either picked up, or maybe is assumed to drift into a planet's atmosphere if not picked up before then? It never actually DOES it, but maybe that's the asumption. (It's also a DANG cool thing to imagine.)

Jump gates wouldn't be one-way capable, or else you wouldn't come out of the jumpgate through another. Methinks they use a mini-sleeper-ship to make the trip to the other system.

Yeah, Trent is waiting to find Juni again. Didn't anyone else notice the looks they gave each other when the other wasn't looking? (Okay, that sentence confuses even me, but maybe if you read it slow...)

You never meet the normal people on a planet because Trent hangs out in "space bars." Sorta like sports bars.

Maybe there's a whole lot of systems out in Omega and omicron space but you can't get to them because they don't have jump holes. It seems that radioactive systems have more jumpholes. Coincidence?

A docking ring is like a space elevator. That's partially mentioned on the infocard for a ring. Honestly, who wants to carry around a heat shield in combat? And don't talk to me about amazing Sirian technology, we all knows what happens if you attempt to put a tiny piece of metal through an atmosphere, even in Freelancer.

SPOILER IMMEDIATELY BELOW!

The Outcasts AND the Corsairs are descended from the Hispania. This is covered in another thread.

"What's the point of jumping out of a perfectly functional aeroplane screaming the name of a dead native American?"

There actually was an abo sleeper ship. But it sort of ... well, you know -- went so far and then came back to where it started.

Juni: "Trent, we've got to go faster!"

Jumpgattes seem to be one-way. You don't exit through the gate, you exit to the side of it. A Hole is a Tunnel of Sorts, and are 2 way, and can be unstable. Some last for only a few seconds, I would think. And Also, I Seriously doubt K and M are Kilometers and Meters... It just doesn't work out. If you read the info card for Tradelanes it says "Superluminal travel". Unless I'm wrong, that means faster than light. I would assume that cruise speed would be Light Speed, then(Get minimum distance from the star(s), and then time your approach- It'll be more a few minutes, at the least.(8 Minutes at light = Astronomical Unit, try that one on Earth Like Planets, IE Stuttgart, New Tokyo, or Gaia). A Gate or Hole is extremely fast(It only takes a few seconds to get to another system), although, I would assume that it would be Terribly expensive. Also, the population on planets is pretty low. New Tokyo has about 200 million, as opposed to Earth's some 4 billion.
