Freelancers already invading EvE?

This is a free discussion forum on Freelancer. This is the place to discuss Freelancer issues NOT covered by the other boards!

I was terribly unimpressed by the beta. The game just seemed no fun. You can't really compare it to freelancer either, it's more like EQ, especially in the control department. You don't fly your ship, ala Freelancer or Privateer, you click on where you want to go like EQ. You click what weapons you want to fire and then watch the battle like EQ (again).

Basically think EQ combat system, with UO type mining and some sci-fi setting thrown in the mix. Booorrrriiiinnnngggggg.......

Yes........

Je quoi-que non!!!

I looked at EvE. It looks like way to much to get into, and if you can't control your ship, it's like Freelancer reversed. In Freelancer you do nothing in a Base, in EvE you do nothing in a ship. I REALLY want to know what you are talking about Freelancers invading EvE. Dude, you can't leave the Sirius System dumb*ss. You're REALLY confusing me now.

What I meant is that many former Freelancer players have set up shop inside EvE and have built and named corporations and companies in honor of Freelancer.

Having said that, I don't consider Freelancer as being able to do a "lot" in a ship. It's a mouse driven point and clicker third person shooter, once you're into combat, and it feels very dumb down for a person who also came from playing Independence War 2: Edge of Chaos, where the ships are joystick controlled and literally governed by inertia (try doing the 180 degree loop manuever, literally flying backwards shooting at a pursuing opponent.)

but FL is fun, much more expansive, and lacks EoC's innane mission design, although I much favor EOC's flight and combat system as still the best ever I've seen in a space game. EOC's universe, however like Tachyon the Fringe, does not extend beyond the SP campaign or to multiplayer, and like TTF, only offers deathmatches and team arenas. That's where FL rules.

But after thoroughly exploring just every system, created level 38 characters multiple times, and tried every ship in FL, I do think it's too easy and offers little now except variations with mods. I'm certainly not alone: inside EvE, I often meet and chat with other players that had previously owned and played Freelancer. Not only do they honor FL within EvE by naming corporations after FL factions, but also even use FL names like Trent or Juni.

Don't take it wrong: Freelancer is a deep game. But I think I've drank every last drop of it. The people whose appetites that were wetted with Freelancer now wanted more than what FL can offer. They want more universe interaction. They want a dynamic economy. They want to set up corporations as members and a space base of your own where you can call an HQ. They want to explore literally hundreds of star systems, and I do mean one heck of a lot. They want to build factories that build and sell ships. They want to fly big transports, cruisers and battleships and engage in massive fleet combat. They want to fly into huge gigantic space bases. They want a customizable character who is not a clone of Trent. They want to be in the same universe, where thousands of other players are simultaneously playing, when most of the time you meet another ship, it's really another live player, not an NPC. If you're ready for all of that, welcome to EvE.

"if you can deal with horrid lag, crappy bugs lots and lots of lamers, go play eve online- the best mining simulator out there"

You must be the biggest hypocrite in this planet.

Ever check out FL multiplayer? Seen ships jump around jaggedly radomly as you try to aim? That's what you call horrid lag.

You only get horrid lag in EvE when you are in a massive multiplayer epic combat (which you're not going to experience in FL anyway), combat like a flee of having 20 to 40 players in one side battling a fleet of an equal number of players in the other.

"crappy bugs"

At leaset EvE acknowledges its bugs. And there is many of them. But the efforts to eradicate them are just as many and the patches come often. Since FL was released, I have not seen one serious patch released to eradicate some of the problems of the game, especially the most critical of all, the one allowing cheating modders.

There is an ingame bug/cheat report petition in EvE. One time I reported a bug, and guess what, a DEV actually answered me personally, leaving a message through the ingame petition system. How many times do you actually experience that in any game?

"lots of lamers"

And yet you seem to tolerate cheater/modders in FL.

"mining simulator"

You probably don't have the skill to find avenues in making money, Freighterfool.

And there are five ways to make money in EvE---taking missions from agents, mining, bounty hunting, trading and manufacture. And if you think mining is that easy, try mining in a pirate infested area.

You must be the biggest hypocrite in this planet.

Why are you dissing people who are merely voicing their opinion? he does not like EVE. Let him be. Why are you advertising EVE here anyway? If you're gonna talk about another game, do it in the Off Topic. You're here trying to steal FL audience and when they refuse to convert to EVE, you bash them? I think you're the hypocrite. I can tolerate discussion of other games. But do it in the Off Topic forum. If you do it here, it sounds like you're trying to sell snake oils.

And yet you seem to tolerate cheater/modders in FL.

Two wrongs do not make anything right. Lamers in FL are isolated in its separate servers, and it's only a question of choosing the right server with the right admin to have fun. In EVE, you're stuck in one universe with these assholes.

You probably don't have the skill to find avenues in making money, Freighterfool.

And if a girl refuses to go on a date with you, she must be a lesbian. Can't you just accept that that's how some of us feels about EVE? You can defend EVE tooth and nails in the EVE forum, that's your God-given right. But you're on another turf with another kind of mindset here. Don't be offended if some of us refuse to disagree.

What about the money? That's 1 reason why I don't try that eve stuff. Don't get me wrong, I like the idea as I liked X-Beyond the Frontier also.

But to pay for the game AND pay $12,95 a month to play it ?

Guess all the other dutch/greedy folks also wanted to know. No, I stay with freelancer then. At least I can play for free on my own server

actually only 10.95 a month if you get the 6 month subscription. Only thing I dislike is at the moment dying(truely dying) has too high of a price. Hope they hurry up and get the advanced clones thing working so I don;t have to worry about some person killing my escape pod(AKA the Egg o'Death)

I agree w the pricetag point. $40 00 and free, or $10-20 00 and a charge. I am NOT gonna do both. In fact, I do NOT PAY above 40 bucks for a game. Sorry, it aint a cure for cancer. I will pick it up for 20 bucks in 2 months... ya greedy bastards.
