Expansion ideas

I am finding the post SP campaign a tad directionless I think the game needs (expansion pack)

Ideally a fully dynamic story but that probably too much so:

1. A loose storyline ala Morrowind where you can dip into a main story as you please and progress things along when you desire but otherwise you are left to your own devices. That would give you freedom to roam as you desire but within the context of a greater struggle/plot.

2. Ranks, so that you can pick a faction and rise up through the ranks. I dunno become an Admiral in the Rhineland Navy say, or Shogun in Kusari or wherever and that would of course entail you to have different NPC and faction reactions.

3. More random encounters, instead of this rigid adherence to factions maybe a few normal civilians, renegades, traders etc a few more neutrals just to make the place seem more alive.

4. People who remeber you, wingmen, hench men, a home base etc.

Thats all really. The graphics etc are superb as are the ships I would rather see more development on the character and world side of things than extra weapons, ships or another highly scripted story. Loosen up the story. Look at Morrowind where you can join armies, guilds, religons, you can steal, protect, or just trade. And the world seems to react accordingly with you.

I think more versatility in the hailing system would be good.Like the ability to request help/threaten.How cool would it be to demand that some freighter drops it's cargo or be destroyed. There should be more to do on space stations/planets.Also carachter modification should be alloud. How about ship colour as well?

I like to build my own base, like the one Tekagi have...

Juni : Did I ever tell you that people are change by circumstancecs?
Trent : uhh[!..No?..
Juni : Well I did. Babble..babble..bla..bla..bla..
Trent : (Ok...ok.. do I get to sleep with you or not?)

The game needs a new area to explore... Uncharted systems, and Microsoft should build it so that EVERY GAME is differnt, in that how to get to each one is different for every game (Random Jump Holes).. Random asteroid belt locations, etc.. Have like, two systeems that are uncharted, and they lead to a cluster of 5 or 10 new ones... Completely uncharted.

I think exploration is one of the funnest aspects to Freelancer.

In addition to this, in SP, the user should be able to buy/takeover, or purchase a base... Maybe after the SP expansion campaign is done. Then the player should be able to hire 2 or 3 wingmen to and store cargo/ships at this base.

THE GAME NEEDS THIS STUFF! I'm getting bored... (Unless there are other systems that none of us have yet found... you know there's the 53 on the CD)

we need a changable skin for every ship

i'm sick when staring at that never change gray Eagle...

and we need USER GROUPS... just like estabish our own system and force... maybe MS can give us some virgin land and allow players to buy a base in there, and what is more, if other player wanna overrun it, they can have a battle or sth

Yeah, I totally agree with all your suggestions. What would also make the POST-STORY game more fun is if mission postings had a wide range.

Once your done the story, or even after your past level 5 or so. Liberty System is basically a waste of space with no purpose. If your level was checked when you check the board for missions and then a range of missions +5 and -5 your level were offered... then it would make ALL the systems still enjoyable.

and in both MP and SP being able to hire NPCs to build you a space sation or planetary base would add life to the game after level 30+ not to mention the defenses you would also have to purchase to defend it.

A wider range of ship and weapon upgrades would be nice too.
something along the lines of yeah so what if me and 10 other people are flying Sabre VHF's ... mine had the torpedo/cruise disrupter hard point removed to add an additional cargo pod ... and the other guy had gotten 2 weapon hard points added to his ship thanks to his good relations with the junkers. Oh and that other guy flying the Dragon that he had paid the junkers to modify the gun hardpoints to accept CL10 weapons... yeah it was a surprise taking him on.

OH and Destroyable Bases / BattleShips .... A station that is destroyed would stay that way for a semi-realistic period of time as to construct a new one ..
If you destroy a battle ship in liberty space, you should be able to then go to the shipyards and see that a new one is being built or that another battle ship is en-route to fill in for the one destroyed...

forget the hull breach, what about the FIRE?[!?[!?

Did anyone play X-Beyond the Frontier and X-Tension? X-BTF was great because you the story envolved you going to one system, but you had to hail ships to tell you which way to go, and the people who didnt like you told you to go away. So if you were in unfamiliar territory where people don't like you, you get lost. Then you had to hail all sorts of ships and what not. But on X-BTF you could only fly one ship.

Then X-Tension came and there was no story but you could pilot more or less all the ships and have about 600 wingmen and a huge carrier to move them all about with.

Then you get these trading vessels with a huge holding cappacity then you get them to go into the stations to get the goods then they drop them off in the HUGE HUGE HUGE carrier.

Then you could run your own company with loads of stations.

So all I can say about freelancer is that is seems pretty boring compared to X.

(X had a really boring combat though)

I agree whith all thouse ideas, but it's true that they are thinking on doing an ExPk or .....

@Mjr.Hurtz--Well, for my part, I'm very glad Freelancer isn't like that. All that stuff is too much like homework to me. I want a game to be fun, not a chore that I'd rather avoid. What you describe sounds like a game that's based on being a hassle--I would never play a game like that.

In fact, I had been intending to try X until I just read your description, now I know that there's no point in it. I simply don't like that kind of game... what a drag.

I guess I'll stick with Freelancer but that's ok too.

More light fighters and ways to keep multiple ships. The ability to threaten ships to drop their cargo would be nice. The ability to purchase NPC wingmen, for both SP and multiplayer could be fun. I'm a big fan of morrowind, so I agree that their definately needs to be an expansion of your relations with the factions, like the ability to join a faction and rise in the ranks. More types of missions as well, like escort missions. I would also like to see random ship purchase locations so that the top ships were more difficult to find.

Wingmen

I would like to be able to have your own base were you can store multiple ships.
So you can pick a freighter in your landing bay to transport something then come back and take your heavy fighter for a dogfight.

And of course be able to move the base to another location if you wanted to.

Being able to buy the larger ships and a better auto-pilot, at least for following Nav points.

Fixing up the lack of cargo dropping from player freighters in mp. You spend 4 or 5 cruise disruptors at some player who wont give it up. Then you fire what ever else in the ensuing dog fight, mines countermeasures. sheild bats. They all add up then all you get is scrap metal. I individually target sections of the ship so thats not the problem. Box should maybe read Freelancer be anything except for a pirate cause it aint worth it. People are going to say well dont pick on player freighters but honestly they put up a better fight than the npc's. Plus most have fighter escorts.
