Is anyone else disappointed with the graphics?

I was just touring the editing forum and, while the models are all pretty, I'm noticing that even the models in the game lack the clean lines and great textures that I had expected of a modern game. I think these are probably the worst models I've seen of any game since the original Xwing. Look at the fliers from Tachyon in comparison.
Then I thought about the HUD and realized that it wasn't all that pretty either. The environments are pretty, but the HUD is also important. I was expecting something more like from Lost in Space (the first few mins) or the HUD from the new Metroid.

Mind you, I love the game, but what is this?

Anyone else thinking this way?

The graphics are fine by me...

I dunno... they just seem kind of blocky... or rather... bulbous. And I'm talking more about the ones in the game, not the ones from fans. I'm really impressed with what fans are making. They are actually better, in my opinion. I just don't like how the textures fit.

???

The graphics is perhaps the one thing I have absolutely no problems with in FL. Ship designs weren't great, but meh, they still look good in spite of it because of the excellent textures and lighting. And what exactly did you expect of the HUD? The whole point of HUDs is not even notice it being there so much as possible, not to look "pretty". I only wish you could get rid of all the clutter on the screen, especially since you can shoot with your mouse (the backspace key helps, but it'd be nice to get rid of all it ENTIRELY).

Sometimes less is more.
Your right that the modells are not really high detail, but the textures give them still a clear look (if you have the texture memory )

and aswell the fl engine is increbile fast for that it shows.

Overall it is a real good engine, the gfx quality could be for sure better, but as the game runs even fine on p3 with old gfx card without gpu, it´s fine.

Way to invalidate your post there, bucko. X-Wing didn't even have textures.

Go play some Rage Software games. They make beautiful games but leave out the gameplay. Sounds like it's right up your alley!

Oh thats mean... Accurate, but mean. More!

A corpse is a corpse of course of course, unless that corpse can talk of course, and then of course that talking corpse is the famous Mr. Dead.

I agree Incoming sucked as a game but had some great graphics to hold your attention. Just some observations from the edge of space.

all the news that no one reads

I think the graphics are fine but dont forget they started development 4 years ago so the graphics are bound to look a bit dated neway who cares its a great game unlike the evil decent series arrrg!!

your just jealous because the voices are talking to me

the game has great graphics but you're prolly just some loser with an old Nvidia Vanta card or something. Buy a new CPU and a radeon 9800 pro and set it all to high detail with max FSAA and AF and then we'll talk again

Dillinger - Way to invalidate your post there, bucko. X-Wing didn't even have textures.

Hmmm, think about that one. X-Wing sure did have textures, otherwise every panel would be one solid color. I don't think a game has been missing textures since SpectreVR.

Way to invalidate your post there, bucko.

Graphics dated?? Come on. Even on my geforce2 the game looks great. I cant imagine what it would look like on a better card with full everything at 1600x1200. But I will say the ship models are just bad designs. There are only a few that look good but graphics wise everyship is very detailed and has a very realistic metalic look to me.

I just purchused this game last night. I have to say when I fired it up my jaw dropped. The intro screen alone is amazing in itself. I started flying around and my framerate never dropped from 60fps. (I believe 60fps is the highest fraps can display so it can even be higher then that!) The ship detail is truly amazing. I am just shocked that I can run everything maxed at 1600x1200!

Alpha Lead - how are you measuring FPS? I don't recall seeing it displayed on the HUD anywhere in the demo (don't have the full game yet).

I can tell just by how ****y things get that I'm not getting very high framerates at higher screen resolutions on my P4 2GHz GeForce 4MX. Hardly a killer gaming rig, but still -- I usually have to play at 800x600 just to avoid motion sickness.
