To: NOMADS vs SHADOWS.

Subject: Audigy 2

Conclusion: Do it! A friend of mine just upgraded his system with an Audigy 2 and, I gotta tell ya, WOW! His speakers are not even close to the power and frequency response capacity that mine are and now his actually sound better! Much, much more precise in frequency separation and attenuation. I am so impressed that I'm going to buy one. Hmm, what to do with my Audigy 1? I suppose I could test the explosive absorbtion properties when an few M80's are introduced within close proximity! I'll give you all a full report and analysis later...

Thanks Deja. You were right on the money w/ the card. I actually had a chance to experience the card in action at a cuircit city. The demo setup was a p.4 2.4g system w/ a Cambridge megaworks 510d system. Needless to say it was incredible, and I wound up buying the card. Now my problem isn't with performance. Its with the friggin installation. It won't install on my system w/o crashing, or my pc won't recognize it. Again, I realize this might be a techie question, but I'd love some feedback from anyone who knows what the deal is with this thing.

Side note. (My little sales pitch) I just checked out the Klipsch website yesterday, and they've got a sweet deal on some of thier refurbished pc systems. You get a Klipsch 4.1 sys. w/ a digital decoder & remote for 199.99. I paid that much for my 4.1 w/o the digital decoder. Now excuse me while I cry. =(

This is a fun place to come to see what people are using (or want to use) for thier gaming systems. As for the problem with the install of the audigy2 card from the Live 5.1, did you make sure to uninstall not the just the drivers but the Live software from the system b4 you swapped the cards out. Try going into the system under safe mode and checking in the add/remove to make sure (get into safe mode by hitting F5 right after the system is finished posting) as for gaming systems.

Home sys

Athlon 1gig 266fsb
Asus A7v133 mainboard
512 megs PC133
twin Maxtor 740dx 40 gig hds in RAID0 off the promise chip from the mainboard
ATI Radeon 7500 64 meg vid card
ATI TV-wonder PCI
SB Live

Work sys

Athlon 1.2gig (thunderbird core) 266fsb
Giga-byte 7vaxp mainboard
512 pc2100 (266 ddr)
Twin Maxtor 740dx 40 gig hds in Raid 0 off the promise chip built into mainboard
integrated sound VIA Avance
ATI Radeon 9500 pro 128mb(saphire built card)

of course on both theres the usual dvd-rom and a CD-RW drive, both systems are in cheap $60 cases modified with the ol dremel to take 120 mm fans in place of the regular 80s, one front, one rear and have switches so I can run the fans off the the 12 volt (yellow) or 5 volt (red wire) leads. I run the systems in the 5 volt mode so they are nice and quite, but found I needed the grunt of the 12 to get them spinning when I started up the system. Home sys runs 19c sys temp, 32 on the proc. Work sys runs a little warmer at 36 sys, 42 proc, but even still the valcano 7s hardly need to spin so it nice and QUIET!!!! which is so nice after having a 7 fan server case....

also running a ded server for freelancer on an old P2 350 with 192 megs ram an a quantam fireball KA 15gig hd, an it seems to handle server duties fairly well, but not quite ready for prime time, but it's great for 7-8 people on a LAN

I thought i was the one with the lowest cpu but it seems that its still good to have p3.

P3-800 MHZ Coppermine (I hate slots)
Asus Cusl2
256 mb SDRAM
Sound Blaster Live Value
Geforce2 MX (first release)
40 GB Matrox and 20 GB Quantum

The FSB is 100 now because i have 2x64 mb 100 mhz SDRAM and 1x128 MB 133 mhz SDRAM :/. I have to use 100 mhz fsb to have 256 ram

NOTE: I forgot to write that everything is at max and game works smooth. (1024x768 32)
