I knew it was April 1st, so I thought it was a april 1st joke at first.
When I read it I came to the conclusion that if it really was, it whould a really bad one, and so I wasn't shure after all... Bad joke, and no expansion after all
April fools are about making somebody believe something stupid.
Its much funnier to make somebody believe a complete bogus story than disappointing him with a 'might also be true' story.

Perhaps it is just me. If I see a strange, out-of-the-blue product announcement made on April 1st, I assume it is a prank and not real until verified. In this particular case, easy to do by skipping over to any other Freelancer site, espcially (*gasp*) the "official" Microsoft site. Since that site didn't carry the same announcement, it must be a local prank.
Of course, seeing as the list of features is simply a regurgitation of the wishes from this forum the check to an outside site wasn't really needed....
Regardless (or irregarless to irritate some), happy day to all and may Spring bring new beginnings.

shadowstar, I was well aware of the cloaking device in the INIs. however, to the best of my knowledge, nobody's been able to get the cloaks working 100% correctly. thus that whole "pipe dream" thing.
and hey, maybe it was uncool of me to fire off "gullible," but the rant struck me as sort of whiny, and it irked me. and that's "spoony" to you! >_O

I thought this was a pretty good April Fool's joke. Their only worth it if the info passed on as real is a bit ludicrous AND somebody buys it as fact. That's where the joke comes in.
And the expansion announcement is quite unbelievable. It fits what a lot of people wanted out of the game to a tee, it's too perfect. It brings in features from other games, like X2, that were never intended to be in the Freelancer universe. And true, some of it seems possible, but if the feature list was made up entirely of entries like "explore the far reaches of space and see yaks hump!" it's too obvious.
Of course, there's also the cloaking devices and the mature rating. All in all, I thought this was a good April Fools joke. Now if we could get just a few of those features in a real expansion...

I have to agree with Whiplash.
This is the "new breed" of April Fools jokes where creativity is out the window and sadism is the name of the game.
A good April Fools joke is one that everyone laughs at afterwards, even the ones that went for it. How many laughed at this one besides the ones who wrote it and posted it?
To me, FL is getting close to being water under the bridge, but I doubt very few of the die hard fans (whom this site probably is trying to serve) found it amusing.
I'd rate it 0/10 and give it the Lamest April Fools Joke of 2003 award!
