** UTILITY ** 2D System Editor _ Freelancer Explorer

I have been working for a while now on a 2D system editor and it's not going too badly.
The interface is quite basic but it's providing the functionnalities needed.

It's now able to :
Create new systems
Create Planets, Jumphole/jumpgate, Bases, tradelanes, various objects etc..

Everything is quite easy to do.

It's working directly on the compressed ini files (might be a problem if you have uncompressed some files ).

Any suggestion is welcome.

you can find the tool in the Freelancer section of my website :
http://www.lessieux.fsnet.co.uk
(the redirector was not working properly anymore
This address should always work.

Good modding.

Looks awesome, but I'm getting a "the file is not a binary INI file" every time i start it up. i extracted everything into the EXE folder, and I dont think i've edited any of my compressed INIs.

Nevermind, I fixed it. It looks like Mod Manager won't work well with this. I had to disable all mods and restore backups to get this system editor to work, but it looks worth it.

Hi ForceMorph,

Sorry about that, i know that at the moment any mod done in text format will not work with my program.

I might put that change very quickly if too many people have problems with it.
I will also look into the possibility to create something compatible with Mod Manager.

Thanks anyway for trying it

Shsan.

Okay I'm really having only one problem... adding Jump Holes. Right clicking in the system (or any other view) doesn't display anything to add holes, nor is there a button for it. Other than that, the editor is amazing!

Hi,

I know it's kinda weird for jumphole. So double click on a system, in the universe view. You enter the "System view" mode not the editing one.
Right click on a point not used by any object and it will bring a menu proposing to add a jumphole.
You need to set the start and end (preferably into another system) , Double clicking exit the system view mode.
Once you have selected the start and end , a Dialog box will appear and ask you more details.

And that's all.

I am planning to make it able to load text ini files today so it should be compatible with the mods.
However the script in flmod manager does not support suppression at the moment, so it might take longer to do a full support for it.

Bye

Hi,

If you have entered the Edit mode and created a new system then it's by default an empty system and you have to add your own stuff...

If you are editing an existing system and it's empty then it's bug

Can you contact me by icq or send me an email directly with some screen captures if you think that it's bug.

i'm going to use this tool to create systems for my Archangels of Europe mod which i hope to make in the near or distant future
but i want to ask few things
1)if i uninstall & reinstall it will i be able to get the new systems away
2)can i access the systems in mp without anything having to change anything to the game
any help in creating new system/mods and to remove them later

Post Wed Apr 23, 2003 9:33 pm

At the moment, there is no way to delete a system (except by reinstalling the original inis and cleaning manually the System directory).
I have added this to the "to do" list . I should be able to do it quickly.

I am not sure i understand what you mean by uninstalling & reinstalling. The program in itself does not keep any data. It's reading and storing all the changes in the ini files of the game.

About MP, i haven't tested it yet because it's far from finished and i dont want to loose too much time until i declared the program acceptable (that's clearly not yet the case ).

However if you test it give me a shout to tell me how it worked

At the moment i am fighting with the cloud creation....

If you want anything in particular , just make a list classed by priority and send it to me.

I'll try to make reports frequently and post a new version each time a new feature is added.

Hope this helped.

this utility works for mp games
i placed a zoners weaponplatform right acros freeport 2 and it was there
note
that the mp test i did was on my own server and that my client is on the same pc as the server

so now that it works can annyone tell me how to add a cluster of systemslike Liberty, and the factions that belong to it

Post Wed Apr 23, 2003 10:32 pm

To Add factions you need to edit the faction_prop.ini and the empathy.ini in the MISSIONS directory.

That cannot be done by my soft (not yet

Once you have created the factions , my tool will recognize them and you will be able to create new systems with these new factions.

I will post tonight a version supporting text ini files. So it should not conflict with decompressed files and mods.

First off this is one hell of a fine program, only a couple questions, I haven't done any creation of systems yet because of a couple problems what are the sizes for stars and thier atmosphere sizes based on and um what are the planet rotation spots about (sorry if this is a dumb question, heh)

Post Thu Apr 24, 2003 12:45 am

Okay, i made a system using this, went into my game and now the names for everything (systems, etc) are all gone. I sorta know what the problem is (messing with the naming dll), but how can this be fixed?
