**Tutorial** - Creating a new system

Here you find the different tutorials on editing and MODing Freelancer

i think adding planets is much harder cause you dont add a planet on which you can land, instead you add a docking ring on which you can dock. and in the ini files of the original systems are really many [ZONES and i think if you add a planet you have to add a zone too. maybe the zones are some sort of crashzone, so if you fly to near to the planet you crash. tomorrow i will test to planet and write the results into my how-to.

So long. Good night.

well, the planet is an object group too, and yes, u do need to add a docking ring in front of the planet u make, Problem is, I've tried creating my own base to dock to by copying available info, and FL simply doesn't wanna know. When I tell it to use an existing base ini file, it works fine, but when I take off, I find myself flying around outside the base/planet the ini file belongs to. (Eg manhattan) which is a bit odd. Anyway, that's my current situation. The Zones are useful, btw but not actually needed to put the planet into FL. I managed to do it without adding any new zones.

Well, managed to get docking to a planet working, it was actually something Dawn missed out of that cool tutorial. Whenever u create a new base/system, u must also reference it in data\universe\universe.ini

eg:

[Base
nickname = Li01_01_Base
system = Li01
strid_name = 196766
file = Universe\Systems\Li01\Bases\Li01_01_Base.ini
BGCS_base_run_by = W02bF35

and:

[system
nickname = Li01
file = Systems\Li01\Li01.ini
pos = 7, 8
msg_id_prefix = gcs_refer_system_Li01
visit = 1
strid_name = 196609
ids_info = 66106

Oh - And no zones were used in getting this to work - Which also kinda means there's no atmosphere effect around the planet, only way u can kill yerself would be to fly right into it

Dawn what exactly did you forgot? I don't see anything missing?

I have a question, if the server edit the files and run the server again, must the clients also have the new files to see the new jump gate? I think they must don't they?

And if the client edit some files, and the server don't..., how does it react on eachother?

Post Fri Mar 07, 2003 1:43 pm

I think everything that has to do with the loading of ini files are server side in MP. Only thing the clients can do is use memory hacks.
